Clijsters: Is the time finally right?

Big things were expected of Kim after her Roland Garros final, but she could not maintain that level of play throughout that season and in 2002.

Kim now has the opportunity to play like and possibly actually be the #3 player in 2003 and it could all start with a win in the Porsche finals.

If Clijsters continues to pay more attention to her game rather than her boyfriend's game, then a higher ranking and maybe even a Grand Slam title could be in her future.

I like Kim, a class act. She should be #3 in my opinion. Ever since she almost beat the Princess of Power in 99, I have respected her game. In fact she plays alot like the Princess. Kim should defeat the talented Daniela tomorrow and start her climb to be the #3 player in the world.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!
SERENA PRINCESS OF POWER

Victoria Duval - coming to a slam near you
Françoise Abanda definitely a future #1 --- Taylor Townsend devastation on the march
Venus and Serena ferocious grannies --- Kimiko Date Krumm great granny still doing her thing.

"she could not maintain that level of play throughout that season and in 2002."

I think she did, except in the period between rome and us open this year but that was also due to injury, motivationproblems and a coachchange!

I think her and Amelie will be expected to make some nosie next year, I hope she and Amelie at least go to a slam final next year, but venus and Serena will be hard to beat especially in slams, so hope they can take the next steps

I think you are right irma, I just check her record this year and believe me it is not that bad at all, she even have n okay american hard court season, she just had a bad period between after Aus Open and Wimbledon which mostly are due to injury

Irma - Yes, Clijsters had some good performances, but she did not follow up that Roland Garros final with any of the following:

1. A Grand Slam singles title
2. A #3 or higher ranking
3. More vicories over top ten players and especially over the WILLIAMS.

Regardless of the reasons for some of her halts during the seasons, Kim did not maintain that level of play that she had in Paris, 2001.

well she did beat Venus, but then I guess we have way too much high hopes on her after last season, but I do think she has what it takes to challenge them frequently, she is althletic, she is feisty, she hit the ball hard and clean (well when she is on, just like any other player)

You know its a question mark. Who knows the #3 ranking is going to get competitive, the top 5 is going to get VERY competitive (Jen, Amelie, Clijsters, Seles, Davenport, maybe Henin) and since she has a losing record against most of them (Jen, Seles, i think Davenport, not sure about Amelie) its going to be tough

Ehm actually, Kim did reach the n° 3 position this year, and next year she can gain alot of points.

I think Kim is the best athlete in the top fifteen outside of the Williams sisters. (Amelie could make a legit arguement I guess.) What she lacks a real overpowering weapon, like Serena's serve or Venus's backhand, or Jenn's forehand. She can get to net against hard hitters, but she doesn't always choose to do so.

Since RG 2001, she's gone QF, QF, SF, 3rd round, 2nd round, 4th round at the Slams.
She's never won a TIer I, but she's won several of the more prestigious Tier II's.

To me, it doesn't add up to #3. More like #5

Thumbs up I Like Kim & Think She'll Excel

Ah-hum. Didn't I say I liked Kim? Didn't I pick her for the fourth best player in the WTA the other day? Kim has the goods. She just has to concentrate more during her matches - and she should find her way to the top. Kimmie gots game.

I like Kim a lot. And after the Sisters - she is my favorite player. I think she will progress w/i the next year. And she will be the main one to give the Sisters a fit. There may be others - but she is a shoe-in IMO. Chanda - Momo - Justine and and of course, Lindsay can beat the Sisters if they are on.

At times - it also matters the surface any given match is played on.

Peace!

Kim Clijsters has what it takes to be dominant. A serve topping 110, overpowering groundstrokes, the speed of a Williams sister without their foot-heaviness, and the ability to hit fantastic lobs, drops, and slices. Her only problem remains her inconsistence, she hits more errors than any top 10 player for sure, but as she continues to control that I don't see why she can't be the world #1 in the short future.

She is also my new favorite player (until Hingis returns with a less appalling game).

oooOOo, on the Kim bandwagon now aren't you. Giving up on marti eh? lmao

Anyways, Kim has the game and I don't see why she can't challenge the sisters. I think she will challenge them, but most of the time she will lose with occasional wins. She is a sweet girl, and great player. I wish her all the best.

YES, KIM WAS RANKED NO. 3, AHEM AHEM, THANK YOU NOODLES!!

And Kim didn't have an inexcusable decline as others have already stated.

I've never seen Kim, but what Volcana said seems to be it.
Number 5 seems fit for her
