Well everyone is going to say it, so I may as well be one of the first - total waste of a WC.

Expected. Should have played qualifying.

Naomi Cavaday would have made better use of it.

Well she was offered one apparently, but she declined. Which is odd for a challenger level player to decline $20K in guaranteed prizemoney. Still scratching my head at that one, so I wonder if it's actually true (if it is, then she's an idiot).

No she wouldn't she's been awful the last 12 months. Only one decent tournament.

Her knees were strapped like that in Eastbourne too. A poor performance and a terrible decision to give her a WC over Broady and Smith who have both been in far better form this year. I know they both lost in the qualifying but they haven't even ever been given the chance to step up.

Well, to be fair, Scholesey wasn't in much better form/playing at a much higher level in the years when she was given wildcards, but she still took inspiration and stepped upto the huge occasions. The WC could have been that one bit of inspiration she needed to get her career moving again but apparently she doesn't think like that.

I have to believe that Broady would have won at least one more game...

Kuznetsova

... for some reason.

Kulikova is a dangerous player in the draw. Good win for her after her injury. She really has had some bad luck in the past.

Rest in Peace Bally!
