"...I apologize to the public and my sponsors,''

``At the moment I am not capable of reaching the level that I expect of myself, and I apologize to the public and my sponsors,'' Hingis said.

I pulled this out of an article about Martina's announcement. To picture her APOLOGIZING for let down everyone made me VERY SAD. It just shows me what a sweet girl she is and what a professional she is. She wanted to do well so bad that she came back too early and is blaming herself for all of this but she is just guilty of trying to be the best and trying to help women's tennis. It's great that she had the humility and honesty to admit her shortcomings and to apologize because that shows how much she cares about tennis and her fans and sponsors who have stood by her. But nobody deserves all these injuries and she shouldn't really feel the need to apologize.

a rest will be good for her, and then she will come back with mental freshness

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

I think it's great that Martina can say "I'm sorry" and more players should too. A couple of names are on the tip of my tounge. I really think Jennifer Capriati should apologize for her adult language and not use it anymore in front of kids and the TV public.

I wish Martina the best of course and get well soon!!

Well the only terrible loss was to Petrova. The others aren't too bad.

Ryan what are you talking about??? Martina is great for admitting an error in judgment. An error that was made with all the best of intentions and the belief that she was ready. there is no crime in that. I think it's sweet that she can show that she cares about letting other down when she herself is so sad. That shows maturity. It's maturity when in the face of adversity and frustration you are still concerned about others. None of her fans and even most of her non-fans BLAME her for this or are MAD at her. Sure we might say that some of her decisions played a role but it's naive to not realize that injuries are happening to all kinds of player.

The hard court season is WAY WAY TOO LONG! Return tennis to clay and grass. The human body was not meant to play so much on hard courts. People whose faves play best on hard courts have a vested interest in their minds in keeping up the high number of hard court tourneys but if they thought about it for long it's a no-brainer cuz SOOOO Many wta and atp players have ankle, foot, back and knee problems. It's a travesty.

martina should not apologize, certain persons should apologize to her.
her mother first!

We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams

Also maybe the whole tennis community put too much pressure on her, lindsay and jenn to beat the williams. How stupid! Jenn was burnt out, linds and Marti were injured and the Willies deserved their wins.

I think people want to see tome 3 setters and some good matches and some different winners so hopefully Martina will be back in Melbourne with her A game.

well melanie at times does seem a little pushy. i dont know though. i never heard her speak english or met the lady myself. she did get warned for coaching against venus @ NY 2000, but Richard got warned also @miami (2000?) in a serena match. serena said she was trying to ignore him to the umpire and did not like the warning at all.

Melanie is crazy but Martina loves her mother and will defend her to death. Alla Kournikova is also crazy IMHO
