Cuando se lesionó en el torneo marroquí de Fes, Carla Suárez era la número 18 de la Race

"Ha llegado en el peor momento porque estaba en números de acabar el año entre las 20 mejores del mundo", comenta su entrenador Xavier Budó. Él estuvo presente cuando Carla se lesionó en la segunda ronda del torneo marroquí de Fes en el choque de segunda ronda que la medía ante la británica Anne Keothavong. Por aquel entonces se le diagnosticó una rotura parcial del ligamento astragalino anterior y esguince en el tobillo derecho. Se puso en manos de Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, el galeno que cuida a gran parte de la 'Armada' española, e inició un proceso de rehabilitación que aún sigue hoy.

Tras sesiones de rehabilitación con crioterapia, máquina Técar, tratamiento de choque con agua y magnoterapia, Carla viajó a París con la intención de probarse en Roland Garros. La canaria aún tenía dolor y su paso por la arcilla parisina fue un visto y no visto, ya que cayó a las primeras de cambio ante la bielorrusa Olga Govortsova. La derrota era lo de menos, pues el problema de la lesión persistía. Carla tiene un edema óseo en el tobillo que la obligó a parar después de París, pudiendo coger la raqueta sólo en un par de sesiones. Tenía pensado jugar en hierba, primero en Eastbourne y luego en Wimbledon, pero la lesión se está prolongando más de lo deseado y la canaria se ha visto obligada a renunciar a ambas citas.

"No se ha complicado, simplemente se trata de una lesión de cura lenta", nos aclara Xavi, quien quiere ser prudente a la hora de fijar una fecha de regreso: "No queremos fijarnos una fecha porque eso lo único que haría sería meter más presión a Carla. Lo importante ahora es que se recupere totalmente de la lesión porque es muy jóven y cuando vuelva que lo haga con garantías y confianza". Tras un muy buen primer tramo de la temporada, donde destacan la tercera ronda del Open de Australia, las semifinales de Bogotá y la final de Marbella, Carla se había situado en el puesto 18 de la Race 2010 y aspiraba a acabar el año en el 'Top-20' mundial. La canaria defendía pocos puntos entre Madrid y Wimbledon (primeras rondas en Madrid y Eastbourne y tercera en Roland Garros y Wimbledon), por lo que una buena actuación en este tramo de la temporada le habría hecho posible sacar adelante el reto. Sin embargo, Carla aún está en fase de recuperación en Barcelona, en sesiones de mañana y tarde, sin poder coger la raqueta. Los objetivos han cambiado y ahora pasan por recuperarse totalmente.
It basically says that recovery is gonna take longer than expected although it´s not getting worse and that they dont wanna rush a comeback cause the priority is to be healthy. She´s working with Doctor Cotorro in Barcelona and cant have any training

Agree. I was shocked she decided to play at RG considering the severity of her injury and considering she did an excellent job making her 1st set against Govortsova so competitive. But in truth, it was not a wise thing to make such an effort.

She should now take her time coming back but I would hope that she is able to at be able to return before the season is fully over if at all possible.
