Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

So what does every think the ranking of Dinara Safina will be after the French Open. She has over 3500 points to defend and when is the last time she even played a match? I mean 3500 points in a months time span. Is she going to be healthy enough to come back and defend the over 2000 points that are from the tournies alone and then the 1400 from RG?

Venus is looking good. 14 matches in a row. With her semi final here she is now the new number 4. If she wins the tournie it will put her at number 3 in the rankings and less than 200 points from the number 2 posistion. With only about 415 points to defend going into RG i see a very good chance of her making it to number 2 and having the sisters back at 1 and 2. Been a while. What do you think are those chances? CW and Dinara are basically her two major factors and they both have well over double the points to defend compared to her.

Re: Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

If Safina comes back during clay season she should be able to defend most of her points...and Woz is playing fairly well...so I guess it's possible but not probable that Venus will be back at #2...and honestly...I'm not too sure she focuses on the rankings...yet it would be nice to know she wouldn't see Serena til the finals.

Re: Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

yeah, i agree, i can't imagine dinara in her current form defending those points so i imagine venus will eventually become number two in the world given she plays a better clay court season

Re: Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

Oh Venus, cannot wait for her to climb higher in the rankings, unfortunatley the last four or so years she has had very little to defend in the clay season and each time has failed to make up ground.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

Re: Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

Safina won't be able to defend the points. If Venus wins Miami, she'll be 3rd on the leaderboard.

Also Venus has already successfully defended her points at Miami. During Clay season, Venus should only be worried about Rome (Semi-finalist last year). Hopefully she will do better at the French Open as well, but that's her worst grand slam event so eh......

With Wozniacki at World Number 2, Venus shouldn't have a hard time getting 2nd spot back. I'm predicting that Wozniacki will lose at least 900 points at the US Open.

Strangely enough, it has only been 3 or so days since I've commented to a friend that we'll probably see the William sisters at World Number 1 and 2 again this year.

Re: Rankings Question (Dinara/Venus)

As a Venus fan, as long as she's in the top 8 then I'm happy. If she makes it any better then I see it as a bonus.

But I still find it a big shame that Dinara wasn't able to do much and is sidelined with injury. Just a bit of a downer when one player isn't able to defend points.

No way. Even in a best case scenario and with no problems at all, she hasnīt played a match in two months and it will take her a few matches to get in match shape. If she has bad draws, she might suffer some early round losses. I donīt see her playing every week either, if she makes it deep in some tournaments. It would be amazing, if she made it through the whole clay season without another setback. That should be her biggest goal, not defending these points. They are meaningless. With the current inconsistent players sitting inside the top 30, sheīll have no problem to climb through the rankings again as long as she is 100% healthy.

Ula Radwanska has a back injury and won't be back before Wimby...

When will Safina be back?

Safina has a LOT of points!! She won clay court tournaments last year like clockwork!! Remember she won Rome and Madrid . And was a finalist at the french. Homegirl has ALOT to defend

I agree w/u 100%. That's y I said I think she'll defend most of her points if she returns. Most players will roll and I'm not too sure what a bad draw is for her on clay...I think she can take Justine who will be ranked (so they can't meet too early any) and Kim will be what top 10 by European clay...she'll b fine.
