What if she loses those challengers?

Ana isn't in that bad of a situation. She just needs to go play international tournaments.

That rests on the aaumption that her problem is a lack of confidence. If that's the case, and I'm certainly not convinced it is, she could set a schedule of Internationals , not even have to risk facing more than one top player in a tournament, and pick up some nice appearance money from TDs happy to have a recent slam champ at their event.

The reason I don't buy the 'confidence' thing is that her game collapsed immediately after she won Roland Garros. It didn't fall off gradually. It collapsed. Even last year's IW final was an illusion.

I don't see a confidence problem here. Winning a slam doesn't rob you of confidence overnight.

She doesnt need confidence. she's missing a lot more than that.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Ugh....

You have to have talent to have won a Slam at some point in your career. And she beat a very resistant and very good Jelena Jankovic on clay, a Schnyder when she WASN'T a joke, and wiped out everyone she was supposed to wipe out (Arvidsson, Safarova, Wozniacki, Cetkovska) and beat a Safina who was playing better than people give her credit.

Where did Volcana imply that Ana wasn't/isn't talented?

How I read that makes it appear that he just thinks Ivanovic didn't have the game to be winning slams in the first place.

No she needs to play a williams or other top players she would pride herself iin beating. remember last year when she barely did nayhting meaningful but was at her absolute best against serena, though she lost she was hitting her stride. This week aginst radwanska, she found some of her old spirit. I think it is the top player that would force her to step it up.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

Than to play futures or junior events

Whole this concept about playing small tournaments never works for Ana. Except Serena, there is no other so clean example of player which have better GS record than tier-I, better tier-I than tier-II, better tier-II than tier-III/tier-IV level. So she will make big mistake if she switch premier events with international, and idea to skip to challengers don't deserve serious discussion.

And BTW, she don't need to back her confidence - she needs to back her old forehand, serve and aggressive game style, and results (with confidence) will comeback also. And talking about her latest matches I notice some progress with new coach. Since Wimbledon 4th round last year she played 4 matches vs TOP10 level players (Venus, Henin, Kuznetsova, Stosur) but never won more than 5 games in any of this matches. With new coach she played 3 sets against TOP10 level opponents (vs Kim in NY and Radwanska at Miami) and lose again all this sets - but for change this time she at every SET won at least 5 games (6-7 5-7 5-7) which is obvious improvement for me (and don't count that set vs Kim where Ana waste SP=MP like EXO because money prize for win in that set is bigger than to reach premier-5 final!).

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Ana Should Play Challengers To Bolster Her Confidence..

No, she does not need challenges.

She needs a steady, realiable team to work on her match management.
Because she does not lack the stills, she loses matches with her head: sudden loss of focus, bad decision making.
The "Venus Syndrome". But Venus manages to overcome these mental lapses more often than most.

Somehow, Ana has to learn how to extricate herself out of these diffcult situations she put herself in.
