Wickmayer's Dad is not very happy with Henin and Clijsters

Yanina Wickmayer's father Marc has said his daughter will not play in Belgium's Fed Cup tie against Estonia unless she is in the starting singles lineup. The two nations will meet in Hasselt, Belgium, at the end of April.

Wickmayer is currently the highest-ranked Belgian, but with comeback queens Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin also on the team, she could find herself warming the bench until the tie is decided.

"It's the beginning of the clay season and Yanina does not want to risk injury in a match without significance," Marc Wickmayer told Le Soir, questioning Henin's motives for volunteering for the tie. "Why does Justine want to play? Because the match is taking place in Belgium? To look after her popularity in Flanders? If she's there again next year to go to Russia or the Czech Republic, then I'll present her with my apologies."

Marc Wickmayer also said Clijsters "doesn't talk to me a lot and is very distant with Yanina."

Yanina, however, has indicated she would be willing to play either way. "If I have to play, I'll play. If not, I'll encourage the others," she said. "The most important thing is that Belgium wins. I don't want to impose myself."

Parents should STFU. They get their daughters in more trouble/heat with fans, organizers and commentators than the players could on their own. Literally - you are a parent, and 90% of the time you have NO tennis eduction. Stop talking.

Why should Kim and Yanina be best friends just because they're both from Flanders? They seem like very different people in different life stages.

I'm surprised he says Kim and Yanina are distant. I mean, I don't know if they are BFFs or not (doesn't seem like it), but distant? But, yeah, he is probably talking bs.

Yanina's idiot father should be thankful that he was able to raise such a classy girl.

Re: Wickmayer's Dad is not very happy with Henin and Clijsters

He is sooo right. It was simply awful what Clijsters did this year saying she will play Fed Cup after Australian Open. She confirmed that several times and she even said this in Melbourne, two weeks before the Fed Cup event. She lost against Petrova and then she started to act like a baby pulling out of the Fed Cup with no special reason and then after all she played Billie Jean King Cup to get $400,000. And that woman now gets the award for the Best Sportmanship? Shame

Re: Wickmayer's Dad is not very happy with Henin and Clijsters

Bet he's jealous both Clijsters & Henin came back cause his daughter would have been #1 Belgian and the other two are stealing almost all the headlines instead I don't know how popular tennis is in Belgium, but I guess with such two players it must be pretty big.
