I think so, so that's probably where the confusion came from. I don't think that either of them should be crucified for trying to shake the umpire's hand.
That was a very quick handshake, especially considering the fact that this was the Miami FINAL. You know that if Serena would have lost, she would have given Maria a proper handshake.
Seriously, look at the way Serena just quickly turns around when she realises Maria goes up to shake his hand and she tries to beat her to the punch. Oh my god. :haha:
Reminds me of the Hotel episode of Mr Bean, where Mr Bean tries to beat his next room neighbour to the punch at everything.

Sharapova could have at least shook his damn hand. He did NOTHING TO HER. He even put his hand back out to recover a shake from Maria and she just completely dismissed him. That is what you call unprofessional.
Maria is one of the most professional players on the tour. If you had just lost a bagel and were feeling completely dejected, for that handshake to happen. She was obviously pissed off, but Maria has shown true dedication to being a gracious loser. Didn't Serena say herself that she could learn from Masha in that sense?
I remember when Serena beat Monica Seles at the US Open 1999, she let Monica shake the umpire's hand first.
Maria would do well to do something like that rather than what she displayed today. I mean, couldn't she have waited especially since Serena was right there in front of her?
Maria had her hand up first, Serena saw what she was doing and quickly shot her hand up. Because Serena was closer to the chair to begin with, Maria never actually shook Kader's hand and was just touching the back of Serena's.
