Comparative rankings of Top-10 players

To put an end (well, obviously NOT) to all debates about "the worst #1s ever" and other embarrassments to the WTA rankings (read : Wozniacki) I decided to compare the highest amounts of points amassed by each of the top-10 players who have had their best tour/slam results since 1996/1997. I believe I shouldn't explain why 1997 is "the point of no return" when it comes to comparing players' ranks, right?
Of course, it would be impossible to compare their highest point totals directly since post-1997 ranking system has been modified several times already, albeit far less drastically. Therefore I implemented my own points distribution system fairly similar to the ones WTA and ATP used in the past years. It only gives slightly more weight to Grand Slam titles over Tier I titles and to W over RU.

This is how points are distributed between tournaments and rounds reached:

Code:
                WON RU SF QF R16 R32 R64 R128

Grand Slam 1000 600 360 240 120 60 30 0
Tier I [128] 400 240 150 90 55 30 15 0
Tier I [64] 400 240 150 90 50 25 0
Olympics 360 210 130 85 45 20 0
Tier I [32] 360 210 130 85 40 0
Tier II [64] 240 140 90 55 30 15 0
Tier II [32] 240 140 90 55 25 0
MM [64] 120 70 40 25 15 5 0
MM [32] 120 70 40 25 10 0

                WON RU SF QF/RR3 R16/RR4
Tour Champs* 600 360 220 140 80

                WON RU SF RR2 RR3
MM Champs 120 70 40 25 10

*Note: substitutes recieve no round points, only quality points for defeating top-10 players
Now, there is a quality points problem which I solved in a very simple way : every win over actual top-10 player is worth of 100 additional points at slams and 50 points at other tournaments.
Finally, I had to determine how many tournaments (and which) should be counted towards the comparative rankings. I went with the current number -- 16 tournaments with four of them being mandatories. So, it's four Grand Slams plus 12 best other tournaments.

And this is what I came to in the end:

Code:
Player Actual Total GS Other #Trns Non- Career-high
rank pts pts pts countable rank
                                                        pts

M Hingis 1 8160 4100 4060 17 90 1

As you can see, for quite a few players career-high ranks were not reflection of their best ever 52-week tour results. In the meantime, 12 of 13 players with the biggest point totals are the ones who reached #1 at some stage of their careers.

It won't go anywhere, because number of tournaments puts it into perspective......

Re: Comparative rankings of Top-3 players

You have a serious bias towards older players, since their best tournaments are from their entire career spanding many years while new players (Wozniacki) only have a few years to earn their best tournament points. Your statistic is useless.

interesting... I know you did it for simplicity reasons, but your scale makes it equal beating #10 and #1.....

If you look at all the dates......Most of them come from when they shot onto tour into the spotlight.......

Venus Ebone Starr

Serena Williams

Sharapova

exactly

Because, according to the old system of averages this would be the Top 5:

Serena - 557.5 per tournament
Hingis - 477.1 per tournament
Justine - 443.3 per tournament
Venus - 421.1 per tournament
Linday - 373.4 per tournament

Career Grand Slam in your 20s? Been there done that. Career golden slam your 30s?
There's only 1.
Serena.

Hingis has the most balanced points - nearly equal from GS and regular tour events. She didn't need to pick and choose where to perform well. She did it everywhere.

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.

So I should have waited till Wozniacki retires before compiling the stats?
Seriously, some of her fans are more insecure than the most notable Reetards.

So Wozniacki is currently worst only in TOP2 category

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Yes because we all know how impartial and non delusional the Russian fans are. It is comments like this that start the bickering, and when fans try to defend themselves they are seen as insecure.

I am not conceited, I am just convinced
