SF Pattaya City: [1]V.Zvonareva def [4] Y. Shvedova 6:2 4:6 6:3

Yarka

Too bad this match. Yaroslava not played badly, but she made simple mistakes. If she wants to win, She must resolve these errors. Zvonereva played correctly, she did not so much mistakes.

Jarka, it was a very successful tournament for you

Re: Pattaya SF: (1) Vera Zvonareva battles past (4) Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2 4-6 6-3

Yaroslava donated too many points in this match with wild forehands and backhands at critical moments, in addition to gifting droppers that were rather moonballish, enabling Vera to capitalize on same. Yaro basically whipped her own behind in this match with recklessness. She needs better discipline with her game, for this match was winnable for her. Decent match, though.

Re: Pattaya SF: (1) Vera Zvonareva battles past (4) Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2 4-6 6-3

Yup. Agree with the posters above. Slava was just a bit too reckless in attack today. She also seemed most prone to errors on the points that mattered most, particularly those 0-30, 15-30 and 30 all opportunities on Vera's serve. Virtually every Vera game went to 30 all and many went to 0-30 and yet Slava converted these into far too few break point chances. And that was the match. Had Slava been a little more patient on some of these very important points she would have given herself a much better chance at winning today. So often there is a fine line between good aggressive hard hitting and wreckless sloppy hitting. And too many times Slava found herself on the wrong side of the line. And yet it was her aggressiveness that most of the time put her into good positions on Vera's serve. I think it all just comes down to experience and this should be a good one for Yaroslava to learn from in the future.

If Slava looks back at a video of this match she will see she did a lot right but she will also see where she often handed back initiative of a game.

Good match for Vera, who played like a real pro, knowing when to be agressive and when to keep the point alive at all costs. She succeeded in making a very low total of errors while also hitting out effectively whereever the opportunity presented itself.

I'm a little disappointed but not too much. It was still a good week for Slava. She justified her seeding, one of only 3 of the 8 seeds to do so, and played a competitive match today. Slava is hitting with great pace right now and that will be good enough to beat a lot of the girls on the tour right now but when she comes up against an elite player, like Vera, Slava will need to find a way to maintain that power while not being reckless at the wrong time. Admittedly easier said than done.

Yari has a good game. She has to handle the pressure of finishing important matches.
But she can beat top 10 players on a given day

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Re: Pattaya SF: [1] V. Zvonareva def. [4] Y. Shvedova 62 46 63

Took so long for this thread to be created that I almost made it.

Vera played really well, and so did Shvedova. Way to go, Vera. I'm sure there will be a mini-meltdown against Tamarine, who will have the whole crowd supporting her.

Contrary to the commentary thus far, I thought Vera played extremely well. Perhaps Yaroslava went for too much, but Vera was always there, getting almost everything back and making the right plays.
