Got a little nervous when Lena led like 4-1 in the 2nd set but of course the better player won today! Win this thing Elena Dementieva! And with Wickmayer out it may be possible. :P

Re: Paris round 2: Dementieva d Pavlyunchenkova 64 64

This year, you're the number one seed in the tournament and main favourite of the event maybe this is the year...
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: (Laughter) I'm sure that it's going to be a hard tournament to win. It's nice being the favourite, but I know that I'll have to play really well right from the start. I love playing here and I'm ready.

Q. We can see you all over Paris on the tournament posters where you're all alone that must make you happy?
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: (Laughter) Yes, it's really nice. It's the first time that I'm alone on the poster, it makes me feel good.

Q. You'll be battling it out with Benesova or Pavlyuchenkova who you've always beaten before. This should make you feel more confident.
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: It's never easy to play the first game. It's hard to start off a tournament, so I'm waiting to see who'll I'll be up against and then I'll see? in any case, I'm here and I'm ready.

Q. What are your objectives for this new season?
ELENA DEMENTIEVA: Still the same: winning a Grand Slam tournament and becoming World Number 1. And it all begins in Paris.

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....

Re: Paris round 2: Dementieva d Pavlyunchenkova 64 64

Lena didn't play great but did enough to get the job done. So good to see her back on court after such a long break.
Pavlyuchenkova sure gives the ball an almighty whack-she needs to compromise a little to make sure the balls go in though. Her backhand down the line is excellent.
Courtside interview was . Why didn't they let Lena speak in french?
Good luck in the QFs, hoping that she might face Oudin in the semis La vengeance sera chouette.

"And thanks to all the people around the world for supporting me, and my fan club, I could feel your support no matter where I was in the world. Thank you for your devotion. Most importantly, thanks to my family, especially my mom. You've been very supportive, encouraging, inspiring... you were always there for me. It was a long way and we did it together. I love you mom. It's so emotional. It's so hard to say goodbye. I'm going to miss you so much"
