The Current KID GOAT - Who Is She?

Women's tennis has a long history of producing teenage prodigies. Who do you consider to be THE current youngster who will be the most successful on the pro tour?

For which girl is it "only a matter of time", the way it was for a 14 year old Martina Hingis, or a 15 year old Monica Seles, 16 year old Serena Williams, 14 year old Jennifer Capriati, 16 year old Steffi Graf, 15 year old Tracy Austin --???

18-year old Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

We won't see a girl under 17 with huge success (like Hingis) in the future because the quality of tennis is as high as never before, wachting the best 500 of the world
(Watching the best 10 we have had better times, thats for sure)

Laura Robson, Kristina Mladenovic, Timea Babos, Heather Watson, Ajla Tomljanovic, Daria Gavrilova... The Brats are coming.

But in all honestly, the time of child prodigies are over. People want to say that the reason there are no kids in the top 100 is because the 1991-1992 generation sucks, sure that has something to do with it but it is also simply the fact that the game is so much more physical and the players need to get bigger and stronger before they can compete on tour!

There will be fewer prodigies, but it's still very much possible for someone with exceptional talent and a well-developed physique. It's just hard to imagine until we actually see the player. Vaidisova had only just turned 17 when she was in the RG semis and came very close to beating Kuznetsova (Henin would admittedly have been a tall order, though). She was already a force on the tour at 16. We had Sharapova just 6 years ago winning a Slam at 17.

Re: The Current KID GOAT - Who Is She?

I think money has changed the sport. Agents find a young talent, they look for publicity, for endorsements.
Any young player with some success will be rich quick.
It affects how they develop as players.
No young prodigy since those Hingis days has gone on.

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Re: The Current KID GOAT - Who Is She?

These days anyone with talent is sent to some academy and becomes a ballbasher. Their talent is ruined because they do not learn to actually play tennis and after a few years it's too late to regroup (e.g. Vaidisova and Ivanovic).

Tennis has not become higher quality or more physical; a nearly 40-year-old Kimiko Date can still hit with the best. Prodigies still exist, but they are ruined by the acadamies. The most recent player that I would call a prodigy that has grown to fruition is Radwanska, but obviously she is not as good as the legends.

Re: The Current KID GOAT - Who Is She?

You do know that that term makes no sense, right? GOAT=greatest of all time.. so kid goat would be the youngest greatest of all time?

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

She won't be a prodigy winning a grand slam by age 17, but she is one of the top prospects of her generation for sure.

It's hard not to compare Madison with Yulia Putintseva. Born one month apart, and both with wins over top-100 players in a WTA event at age 14. They played in Australia last month and Yulia won 6-4 6-3.

One worry I have about Madison, is that while she can play great matches, she isn't winning titles. She didn't win any of the 9 junior tournaments she has played in the last year. Also, since she is already 5-10 and physically strong, I'm not sure if her game will improve by leaps and bounds over the next few years like other girls her own age might.
