Question Should Shamil Recruit Maria Sharapova To Play For Russia In Fed Cup SF v USA

makes perfect sense

Russia's other top players are injured (Safina)or already did favor to play 1st round (Kuznetsova)

Maria need to play Fed Cup to make herself eligable for 2010 Olympics, which for sure she want to play since on grass courts of Wimbledon

the tie will be held in USA, which is home for Maria

and plus Maria gets a chance to revenge Oudin

I imagine the Russian team may be Sharapova, Kleybanova, Dementieva and Pavlyuchenkova

For Russia against USA? Are you kidding? I could see her play for USA against Russia, though

Shamil has so many possibilities to players to be on the team.

I think with so many talents, the important and biggest factor is team chemistry.

I am sure will put togther an excellent team with good chemistry. That excellent team may or may not include Sharapova.

As for the US, they better bring Venus and Serena because the current team with all their record of overachieving, will face a very task with the Russian team.

Why are you so surpised?
She is from Russia.
She has played for the team before.

What makes you say that?
I do not believe she has taken US citixenship.

I strongly believe that Sharapova prefers playing in the USA over playing in Russia. That's why I am surprised. And how often did she actually play Fed Cup for Russia? I think it was once

Well, don't you think she would have vote with her feet by taking US citizenship if she really wanted to play for the USA.

Having grown up in the US, I am sure she has much more affinity to US culture, but she has said elsewhere she always feels russian.

Well this is right up her alley then since the tie is in the USA. If you meant to use "for" there... she's certainly played for Russia more often than she's played for the US.

I will hope so. That way, USA has a better chance of winning.

She has never palayed for the USA and she won't play for the USA until she becomes an american citizen.
As for playing for Russian only oce, I think she has pexpressed intrested more than once, but schedule conflicts or may be team chemistry concerns have prevented her from actually being on the final roster.

Sorry, but I don't really believe that.

Well, you do not have to bwlieve me.
I know for sure she withdrew one time for shouder injury.
Another time, she joined the team as pratice-partner

Yet another time (or maybe the same time), she could not play because there was an understanding that she would alternate with Kuzzy.
Maria aleady having played agains Israel in the semi, it was Kuzzy's turn when the Russians met USA in Moscow

I am not sure why the arrangement was reached, but I suspect it for team chemistry.
Kuzzy does not seem that warm to Sharapova.

She'll play the first-round tie next year to qualify for the Olympics, just like the Williams sisters.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." -- Herb Brooks

"A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." -- Muhammad Ali

If by "recruit", you mean "pay her lots of money", then it's maybe a possibility.

It is really not that hard to understand. It's a shame most of the morons on here can't quite see it as simply as you.

---

I would really like the team that NA-GOAT mentioned. I doubt it will happen, but I'd love to see Masha and Serena & Venus play the Fed Cup semi.
