I Am Really Worried About Her...

My read on TC “The Comeback”:
Justine returned to the tour not the result of some whimsy or due to boredom and certainly NOT to be the bridesmaid in tournaments. I am concerned as a big fan of the Belgian’s that if she does not capture her beloved French or do well in London, this mother of all comebacks may end up as ill-fated as Hingis’.

The jury is out as it is early in the day, but not that early. I am worried and I imagine her camp is worried too despite all glowing praise about January results. Her 1st serve is real trouble now and she won’t win by out-hitting a Serena. Consider too that the last time she faced Serena in 2008 in Miami, she was destroyed with a love set, likewise versus Sharapova at the ’08 Aussie. A loss in the near future to Sharapova would be a major setback as well. So yes, I am worried for Justine.

Even in 2010, the first year back, she must win a few Premier events when big names appear for this comeback to be considered a success. Quarters, semis and finals are fine for an Azarenka or Wickmayer, or a Li Na but will not cut it for someone of Justine’s stature in the game.

Don't be such a drama queen
Few people believed that Justine could make the final with only 1 tournament played
And she will win the french open because most of the girls suck on it

Re: I Am Really Worried About Her...

If she doesn't put too much pressure on herslef, plays within her physical limits, stays healthy by pacing herself, she will do fine. I doubt she will ever have another 2007 year, but winning a few torunaments and 1 Slam a year will be just fine with me. I am inclined to think that her comeback has something to do with money, so if she can make a couple million dollars a year she will be happy.

Re: I Am Really Worried About Her...

I don't see what the big deal is. There is a 90% chance that she will win the French Open and she could win a few titles before then. We just have to wait and see.

If I were a Justine fan, I would be very worried if she lost at the French Open since she probably won't win anything else.

well....no. That obviously wouldn't support my claim since she has two US Open titles and one Australian Open title.

Jeez. You really are a junior member.
Where have you been?
Justine's serve has always been a problem but she's won a majority of her slams with a first serve percentage at or around 50%.
For a few of her slams at Roland Garros, her first serve percentage was below 50% for the whole tourni.

She doesn't need to prove anything to anyone but herself, just like Serena.
If she doesn't want to win another tourni outside of the slams then that is up to her.
If she wants to use her new game at Roland Garros and win with it (which she will), that is up to her.

She is scheduling well and setting herself up for a good and consistent slam year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her in the top 5 after the US Open.

like Serena and Kim, she's dangerous on all surfaces. If she loses the French, it's not like she has no chance at Wimbledon or US Open.

I don't really see anyone beating her at Roland Garros.
Kuzzie has a shot but she's never been the best with defending tournis.
Safina has a shot but it all depends on her back.

I think Petrova or Dementieva have the best shot to take it to her.
Serena would have to hope for another final showing because I think she isn't her best in the quarters of slams at times.

Re: I Am Really Worried About Her...

what a load of rubbish, henin has been back 2 tournaments and has made 2 finals, both of them loses in 3 sets to the last 2 slam champions. shes not even got to play a tournament on her fave surface and hasn't even played enough tournaments to get a ranking and you are worried lmao.

if she has lost qtrs of brisbane and 2nd round of the oz open then worry away, but from what i saw in australia she will do just fine and id be shocked if she didn't win a slam this year and a couple of other titles.

Thats true but that doesn't mean she has a good chance to win on other surfaces. Maybe I phrased my statement wrong. Of course Justine can win any grand slam, but her chances are slimmer at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Serena can win the French Open but she most likely won't

The difference between Justine's serve and, say, my beloved Lena D's pre-'07 serve is intent. Justine is going for winners on her serve, whereas Lena was being tentative. Justine's first serve percentage was low, but IF she got that first serve in she was very likely to win the point. It's a high-risk, high-reward strategy, as opposed to a "I know my serve sucks but please God just let it get over the net" prayer. Outside of slams, Lena's gone to the same approach as Justine. Her first serve approach in Sydney was pretty low, but she won.

The serve is the one area where Justine's average size puts her at a disadvantage against the bigger girls who dominate the Top 10. Even though a number of them (Wozniaki, Lena, Azarenka) actually would probably kill to have a serve as good as Justine's (or at least have it show up at majors).

Re: I Am Really Worried About Her...

The OP's points are legit, as well as Truefanjay's. Of course everyone knows Jusine capable of winning slams other than RG, but the external pressure and speculation in the media and tennis insiders will become EXTREME. I mean simply, honestly close you eyes and imagine if Justine Henin DOESNT win Roland Garros this year! That's BIG. I don't care HOW you spin it. From that point, each slam becomes progressively more difficult, and if she were to NOT win Wimby..., well, aside from this board blowing up, doom and gloom and finger pointing surronding the governance and wisdom of her come back will reach deafeing levels n the press. She'll retire if she doesn't win the USO.

Re: I Am Really Worried About Her...

Then I predict that there will be a huge surge of Henin fans praying for her to be on the opposite side of the draw from Dementieva this time...and for Lena to have a cakewalk route to the finals. Actually, I think most Henin fans would kill to see a Lena/Dinara collision in the semis.
