"Golden Flower" is now a worldwide phrase as AFP starts to use it

It shocked me a bit actually when I first saw the two words in reports from Agency France Press

I am wondering whether a tennis journalist from AFP is lurking here

From AFP:
Grabbing almost as much attention as Williams and Henin were Chinese semi-finalists Li Na and Zheng Jie, the "Golden Flowers" who created history when they both reached the quarter-finals of the same Grand Slam, then went a step further to reach the final four.

I saw the expression at a BBC website as well I believe:

Let us launch some alternatives:

- Wooden Tower
- Golden Shower
- Flame Thrower (something like a Chinese Dragon )
- Floppy Power (Zheng's serve)

what kind of chinese dragon throw flame? do you mean Loong?
i only know they dominate rivers and sea, make rain and thunder, and can spray water.
one of Loong's nine kinds of sons are surrounded by fire, but they dont throw it.

I am beginning to believe Na-goat is Na Li, that would explain all this inspiration from Na-goat.

Give back 2006 US Open to Justine

A moronic Chinese poster uses a retarded phrase and everyone falls for it But is this really a surprise? Few years ago they took PYW results as real ones and published them everywhere...

It's not invented by "a moronic Chinese poster". Chinese media have used this for years. Google "中国金花", which means Chinese golden flower, you can get 14,000,000 results. All from Chinese media.

Also, 中国小花 "Chinese Little Flower" is a standard usage on media. It literally means Next Generation of Golden Flower. Most time it's referred to female tennis players, but also used for female badminton players .
