Davenport's strokes: What beauty!

All kneel, and hail Lindsay Davenport.

Oh what silky, clean yet at once brutal tennis. A player with quite possibly the 'best' groundstrokes there have ever been (on that, just this once, I'll agree with John McEnroe), who didn't quite realise how good she was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUnQFfKhUd8 (4.07 in particular)

As the latest pigova emerges from heaven only knows where, with mechanical technique, ungainly, sloppy, brainless, oh what beautiful memories we have in these clips.

Just goes to show that it's a complete nonsense that women's tennis cannot be played with panache and its current evolution is 'natural'. So many of these girls are gremlins, nothing else.

She had such a beautiful game. Her strokes were amazing to watch. She really deserved to win Wimbledon that year.

Man, what is this OBSESSION you have with weight?

You once posted that you're not a "weight fascist" or something like that, but I'm beginning to think you're in denial.

I mean EVERY POST something about weight. It's becoming as ubiquitous as "Lena's Bangs."

Davenport's groundstrokes will always be my favorite. So beautiful and effortless.

So having bad footwork and hitting big without a lot of spin is "clean" in your book??

Players don't have to be fat to be pigovas. It just so happens that many are .

Azarenka is a pigova - one of the most foul. And she's actually in good shape. It's the screeching, brainless, mechanical ball bashing and inability to change the direction of her strokes freely which qualifies her.

Sharapova was the first pigova. Seles was the gizmo, who spawned these gremlins inadvertently.

It stands for 'pig ugly tennis'. Girth often is concomitant, but not as a given.

Re: Davenport's strokes: What beauty!

Davenport was a natural of the game of tennis, her strokes were just so perfect...

If she had the speed and more mental toughness, she would be GOAT

Ivanovic - Görges - Agnieszka - Li - Bencic

Venus - Kvitova - Golden Flowers - A.K. Schmiedlova - Stephens - Stosur - Woz

One of Lindsay's best hitting match. Should have won that damn title.

Davenport's ground strokes were surely a joy to watch.

Here's her last great performance:

Re: Davenport's strokes: What beauty!

It's between Davenport and Seles for best ever groundstrokes imo. So brutal yet technically-sound, very rarely breaking down. It's just a shame that no-one who was more of a natural athlete has ever been born with such immaculate timing (Graf and the Williams sisters come quite close in the latter, but not close enough).

Lol-that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. If only she had those two qualities lol a lot missing there. She isn't even ONE of the GOAT.

Was never a Davenport fan and never really found her strokes to be that aesthetically pleasing However, she did have excellent timing. I mean, she kind of had to...

Re: Davenport's strokes: What beauty!

She should have way more than 1 Wimbledon title

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.
