Li Na and interview "cuteness"

I myself was falling into chuckling and finding her answers "cute." Then I went . whoa . what if someone interviewed me in Chinese. Chinese people would be saying - "It's so cute how he smiles and nods at everything. Very quiet and composed" IOW The fact that Li Na can answer anything in English is another accomplishment on her part.

Mulder: "So you're agreeing with me?"
Scully "No! You're bat-crap crazy."

It's true. That said, it's not only English speakers who find this novel. Personally, I always find it cute when a non-native speaker mangles all the tones in Mandarin. I can do a half-decent imitation of it too.

She never got on the boat. Also, isn't FOB derogatory?

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

It's not derogatory; I view FOB as a cute thing and my mom does it all the time.

Re: Li Na and interview "cuteness"

You may think it's cute, but it's used against immigrants, especially in school, all the time, and it is very much meant in a mean and derogatory way...

Re: Li Na and interview "cuteness"

I´ve been saying this the whole tournaments: her interviews are the best, the answers are so honest, she just don´t care about what she´s saying!

In one I started laughing loud here, because the answer was so funny!

Re: Li Na and interview "cuteness"

Many Asian people (especially women) find the whole "cute" thing derogatory. Then again, I'm stunningly handsome. I've been called "cute" for most of my life.
