OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

As I only follow Tennis since 2005 I don't know a lot about the times before. I just looked a bit through the Activities of Jelena Dokic (I always thought she's overhyped) but it really seems in 2001(especially in fall) nobody aside from Lindsay was able to stop her. Has anyone else ever had such a strong fall season? BTW I would love if somebody could tell a bit about that time, her game and so on. Thanks.

BTW I love that only bad result against Danka

In those 6 tournaments she went 1-3 vs top-tenners. So much for 'ownage'.

Not to mention Davenport was the 2001 Fall's Queen.

Re: OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

what a tournament whore. Notice that a lot of the big guns were absent at that time - Seles chose not to play Europe, Hingis had ankle problems, Williams sisters didn't play much. So you have to consider Jelena's success in context.

Re: OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

So let me get this right, she loses 6-3 6-1 and 6-4 6-1 to Davenport yet she owned the tour ?

Interesting fact about Jelena in grand slams is until she beat Wozniacki this year, the only time she ever beat a current top 20 player in a grand slam event was at Wimbledon 99.

Oh I remember how frustrated I was with Davenport Couldn't stand her for beating Jelena everytime.
But Jelena played great that season

Re: OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

I remember those days.
I was at St. John's Univ. at the time and it seemed that every weekend I was watching Dokic play.
Every weekend Lindsay was catching up to the number one ranking.
In the end, Lindsay got it.
Thanks to Dokic and her quality points.

Dokic serve was pretty good and that really helped her for the indoors fall season.
She was very confident at the time and she really went for her shots.
She wasn't predictable and her change of direction on the ball was probably the best in the game at the time.
She was actually a consistent player on her groundstrokes compared to now, very flat with lots of depth though.
Problem was she really sucked on defense which is why Lindsay had such an easy time with her.
These days Dokic is actually a better defensive player but I don't feel she changes the direction of the ball as easily as she did in her younger days.
And to answer your other question, Lindsay has had better fall seasons, it's pretty much the reason she has been able to be year end number one for four years.
She usually played catch up in the indoor fall season.

Points from the Zurich final. Jelena also lost 6-4 6-2 to Lindsay at that year's YEC.

It was certainly the best period of Jelena's career and a fantastic run. But Lindsay regularly put in strong fall season runs like that. In fact in 2001 she won 3 straight tournaments in as many weeks, and finished the year on a 15 match winning streak.

Re: OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

This was after September 11th. So notice the lack of Americans. And Lindsay won Filderstadt, Zurich, Linz, YEC F. So ... Lindsay > Jelena. But go Jelena.

Re: OMG! Dokic owned the Tour in Fall 2001.

Fall 2001 was the best time of Lindsay!
She just played great back then, was one of her best times ever, and she was also No.1 in the end of 2001.
Sad, that she injured herself in the SF against Kim in Munich, was really sad, that she couldnt play the final!

Dokic´s fall was also good, but far away from "owned"

Yes, but this thread is about Dokic not Lindsay.
Go Jelena.

It is simple, but not stupid. But yes, my post was way better than yours.
