She wanted to end on a Serena serve game. She would have aggravated her pulled stomach muscle if she had served more. PSM may take up to 6 weeks to heal. If it got worse she might not be ready for the start of the next season. In a way it was like Luxembourg last week. She might have been able to win the match (because Serena was clearly handicapped, too), but she wouldn't have been able to play the next match without making herself a walking injury. Better for herself and the tournament to let Serena play the final.
It was cool, though, how she finished with such a beautiful shot!
Caroline would have missed out on AT LEAST 100 g's in prize money by retiring. Stop being ridiculous. When players start stepping aside for their friends is when I stop watching sports - because it stops being a sport. Sickening.
Did her father tell her at the end of the first set: Caro, you're too injured to play in the final anyway. So let the audience have a match in the final. Go out there and break Serena for the 4th time in 6 service games so that you can get into her head. Then retire.
Another fitting YEC match.
I think Caroline has showed a lot of heart this week.
She's here to stay regardless of her game style, and I believe she will add more weapons to her game.
Wow. Caroline is so great for the WTA, I don't care what anyone else says. This board is the only place that shits on Caroline. I love her as do most tennis fans out there (She was #1 on the most searches of any player on wtatour.com).
This would have been such a good match. Caro might have pushed it to 3 sets!
Come on Venus! LET'S GO!
