My comments:

Kirsten FLIPKENS:
Breakthrough year for Kirsten in 2009! She’s been pro for 6 years now and was considered as a real prodigy before her 18 birthday. Pressure and injuries stopped her progression. At 23 y.o, she seems to be mature enough to stem the rhythm of the pro tour. Last week she reached the QF as a qualifier at Luxembourg $220K ousting 3rd seed/n°26 Medina Garrigues en route before losing in 3 sets to her in form compatriot 5th seed/n°20 Wickmayer. As I said last week, there’s a real emulation between the Belgium player with rising players and 2 sensational come back Klijters and Henin.

Claire FEUERSTEIN: After breaking the Top 200 last week, Claire keeps rising in the world ranking. Last week, she made it to the SF at Saint Raphael $50K challenger ousting 4th seed/n°129 Cohen Aloro and 8th seed/n°143 Foretz before falling to another compatriot and eventual winner 6th seed/n°138 Parmentier. Even if Claire can be really satisfied for that result, she might be frustrated as she failed to beat Parmentier despite 8 match points! However, she has to focus on her accomplishment this year rising from n°372 to n°184.

FASTER MOVEMENTS IN THE TOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 150 and 200:

Top 10:
Caroline WOZNIACKI n°4 (+2) and Victoria AZARENKA n°6 (+2):

The 2 youngest Top 10 are on the spotlight this week. Both of them are reaching a new career high.
This is more due to other players losing points from last year.
However, both of them achieved an impressive year.
Caroline’s highlights:
-3Titles at New Haven $600K, Eastbourne $600K, Ponte Vedra Beach $220K
-5 times Runner up at US Open $9,8M, Madrid $4,5M, Charleston $1,0M, Bastad $220K and Memphis $220K.
Victoria’s highlights:
-3 Titles at Miami $4,5M Brisbane $220K, Memphis $220K
-2 times Quarter finalist in Grand Slams at The French Open and Wimbledon
Of course both of them are qualified for the Year Ending Championship at Doha.

TOP 20:
Francesca SCHIAVONE n°17 (+7):

Good end of season for Francesca. In mid-2009, she fall around n°50 in the world. A Qf at Wimbledon boosted her confidence and she’s now back to the Top 20, 6 spots from her best ranking. Last week, she captured her career biggest title at Moscow $1,0M beating surprising n°67 Govortsova in final.

TOP 50:
Shahar PEER n°32 (+6) and Patty SCHNYDER n°41 (+6):

In 2007, it was a dream coming true for Shahar who became the ever highest Israelite player.
This is another story this year as she fall around n°70 struggling to find confidence in her game. However, she seems to be back in form. (winning 2 titles in September Guangzhou and Tashkent) She’s one of the biggest improvements in the Top 50 this week. Last week, she made it to the SF at Luxembourg $220K upsetting 8th seed/n°34 Suarez Navarro and 4th seed/n°23 Hantuchova before falling to 6th seed/n°28 Lisicki (in a thrilling 3 setters 7/6 in the 3rd).
Concerning Patty, the situation is a bit different. She’ll celebrate her 31rst birthday in December and it’s starting to be hard to be at the Top all through year. With 11 titles on the tour and a best ranking at n°7 and $8,0 millions of prize money, she can be very proud of her career. However, she’s up 6 spots this week after reaching the QF at Luxembourg $220K creating the biggest upset of the tournament in the 2nd rd beating 2nd seed/n°18 Clijsters. Sadly, she wasn’t able to produce the same level the match after losing to 6th seed/n°28 Lisicki.

TOP 100:
Tsvetana PIRONKOVA n°99 (+27):

A year and a half ago, Tsvetana was breaking the Top 40 with strong ground strokes. The major issue in sport is to confirm after a breakthrough year. The good point is that she’s back in the Top 100 which means that she’s securing a direct entry in the Main Draw at the AO 2010. She’s up 27 places this week after reaching her 2nd QF of the year in the WTA Tour (after Hobart $220K) at Moscow $1,0M. In Moscow she had to qualify beating 5th seed/n°100 Kudryatseva. In the Main Draw, she dispatched a high level of play upsetting Top seed/n°7 Zvonareva before falling to n°36 Alona Bondarenko.

TOP 150:
Evgeniya RODINA n°108 (+19):

Reaching the 2nd rd as qualifier at Moscow $1,0M is also a good deal for Evgeniya. With this result, she could enter the A0 Main Draw. In the qualies she ousted 6th seed/n°102 Rodionova. She kept playinsd strong tennis to perform her ever best victory over 6th seed/n°22 Vesnina before losing to n°27 Kleybanova.

TOP 200:
Claire FEUERSTEIN n°174 (+26):
see above

Yes Francesca had a pretty bas start of season with only 2 SF in $220K WTA Event...and far away from her level...she logically lost a lot of points and fall in the world ranking.

Wimbledon seems to be a turning point for her, reaching her ever 1rst QF in Grand Slam...she also won 1 WTA Title last week and finished 2 times Runner Up.

She's now back to n°17 and should be liftes with Pennetta's success.
