Does anyone here play or even heard of lawn tennis' predecessor...Real Tennis?

Ive been a member of and played Real Tennis since 2003...its a great game although very different to lawn tennis. Its only played in 4 countries, Australia, UK, USA and France and its has only 2500 active players.

I was wondering if anyone else on this board also played (or even heard of ) Real Tennis - in the US its called Court Tennis and in France its called Jeu de Paume.

Yes, I've played it with my family and some friends Very hard to find venues for it, but it is pretty entertaining once you get the hang of the multitude of rules.

I've heard of it. Never played it. This might sound strange for a tennis forum, but I actually don't play the modern version of tennis much either... or for that matter sports of any kind

Is it cause you're too busy making lists of which female players have the best upskirt shots?

I played at the ones in Sydney (Macquarie Uni) quite a while ago now (5 years?), but they were pretty nice too.

There was a good article about it - with pictures - in a one of the summer month (2009) editions of Tennis magazine.

I read the same article and remember the royal tennis scene from "The Seven Percent Solution" which I saw as a kid. (I thought they were playing squash, but was quickly corrected by one of my friends). I've never played it though. Most US courts are on the East Coast. Heck, I've only played on clay once. I bet Lena would be good at royal tennis if she had her bangs.

Is the very small tennis court with loooong rallies, kind of an outdoor squash or with the one with your hands?

I've heard of it and watched it, but never played it. I'll stick with modern tennis for now .

You're thinking of the game of Rackets

No in Real tennis the court is bigger than a normal lawn tennis court and it is completely enclosed...you can hit the side walls and the back wall.

The aim of Real tennis is just to get the ball back in play (or go for the winning areas) The balls are 2-3 times heavier than lawn tennis balls and the racket has a much smaller head, is bent to the left and is made of wood with stiff rope-like strings...let me tell it is hard to get that ball on the strings

www.irtpa.com has more info on this great game

Sounds like a perfect game for Wozniacki.
