Some toughts about the Luxembourg-Tournament...

Watching the match between Wickmayer and Bacsinszky, I noticed that this is a very small centre court / arena. This looks like a 50K ITF-Tournament and not like a WTA-Event. And if you even think about this was Tier 2 some years ago... The infrastructure is really nothing compared to Tier 2 Indoor-Events of Paris, Suttgart or Linz. I read a report on eurosport (a Fan of Lisicki) who said there weren't even screens in the sponsor city where you were able to see the current matches... He said he was very disappointed by the organisation... The arena in my next city (maybe 120 biggest city of Switzerland) is even bigger.

Anyway, the Tournament seems to work, there are at least spectactors

BTW Yanina's "whoopie" sucks

I go there every year

It is small.
But you can be very close to the players, except on the practice courts which are closed

you can't even sit on the north/south side of the court, only left and right side...

Re: Some toughts about the Luxembourg-Tournament...

When I watched Luxembourg last year it reminded me of an indoor court I once used in Germany. The only major difference was that the Luxembourg court has seats at the side.

To me, the indoor lights are really set low.

There's 80 000 people living in that city.
You don't build a gigantic arena with such a small population.

And screens to follow live matches downtown? Most tournament don't have that.

Re: Some toughts about the Luxembourg-Tournament...

A small arena can create a great atmosphere and spectators are close to the players. Some players like that. Elena Dementieva said last year for instance that she enjoyed being so close to the spectators.

The tournament will be for 5 more years at least at the CK Sportcenter at the Kockelscheuer.

Was the Hasselt tourney similar?

That may be the reason why Lena loved it...same with Kimmy.

It's not really in Luxembourg
It's in a very very small town next to the forest

But people from Germany, Belgium and France (like me) come to this tournament

I love the atmosphere of this event! Plus it's one of Ana's 8 tites so very warm feelings. Hopefully Sabine can bring it home this year!

I'll think I put it up on my personal agenda for next year. Was kinda dissappointed with Linz.

Re: Some toughts about the Luxembourg-Tournament...

i always thought it was dodgy when the wta upgraded luxembourg, an event which attracted few top players and has a small centre court

it was a good decision to downgrade it again, although it definitely has a place on the calendar as an international level event

shame clijsters didn't win it this year, the tournament would have got alot more promotion
