If You Were Serena's PR Person, You Would Tell Her To...

Alright,

despite some of the moronic calls for Serena's head, I'd love to hear some COOLER heads prevail and put themselves in the seat of Svengali for Serena.

How would you tell her to handle things over the next few days?

Ignore it all, decline to comment, enter some tournaments and get that #1 ranking back.

Just forget about it like you forgot Justine's hand by the time you got to Wimbledon.

And if your life were gold, how long do you think you'd stay living?

moronic is an understatement by the way.

apologize not to the LJ but for the "situation" maybe?

also act like she gives a damn about the non-slam tournaments.

Well she has that book tour, so no doubt they'll ask some questions about the USO. Hopefully they can win doubles so that will be a nice offset to this.

I'd tell Serena that when people bring up the incident, just say we got a chance to win doubles despite what happened in the singles. That's a good diversion. I would also tell her to keep smiling and be honest without being too honest, which I think is hard for her.

Lastly, I'd tell her to win the AO, FO, Wimby and USO next year so that they can begin on her new book.

I think she's been already told - judging by the press conference. To me, Serena is absolutely no under threat in terms of tennis career (i.e. nothing but a fine) or from sponsors. Fine though is something she won't avoid... All in all, nothing to worry about.

exactly. also, i would say to issue no apologies without consulting the lawyers and the tapes.

i was actually worried about her sponsorships, you think they are safe? even with the calls for her head?

I don't think that would achieve much. She's obviously going to be hounded about what happened. Might as well talk about it and move on. Ignoring it will do nothing.

you know I will say that I am pleasantly suprised about how some of her biggest detractors are coming to her defense.

Re: If You Were Serena's PR Person, You Would Tell Her To...

I would give her a standard answer to give when asked and we know they will. She might lose some sponsors as well as she might not, we will see. One thing for sure is I will not make her apologize and act like a guilty party. Serena is too important to the tour for lasting effects but she will take a hit.

I think this is a legitimate concern. So, however she handles things, I'm sure she'll be taking a good bit of their advice as well.

I'm sure there are some behavior clauses in some of her endorsement deals, so she'll have to give serious thought to what they say. Well, I guess she doesn't HAVE to, but if she wants to keep the cash flowin'...

you will see that all will be downplayed as being in the heat of the moment. in fact, Serena has already stated that herself.

darling, as I stated many times over, I do not have much of an issue with Serena and I love Venus. I'm just pissed sometimes at their fans being not very nice. Let's just leave it at that.

Re: If You Were Serena's PR Person, You Would Tell Her To...

If judging by past actions, Nike should stand by her. they stood by Mike Vick (they were the last of his sponsors to drop him and only because they were pressured), Kobe Bryant and even paid for Tonya Harding's defense.
