Closest I can think of is Petrova.

Good Luck Radwanska Sisters!

Sorana Cirstea - Stefanie Voegele - Michelle Larcher de Brito - Alexandra Dulgheru

I don't recall Huber being as powerful as Petrova can be.

Maybe Chakvetadze(sp?)?

u cant compare Anke with Petrova!
She was and is unigue, no one is like her, she had special game and special character....

Sure, she also played that fh topspin, but her bh was much stronger than Nadias and her footwork much better, while her 2nd serve was always a problem, as she was never consistent enough!

Anke and Petrova are very similar in character - I see the likeness. Mental midgets. Total head cases.

From the baseline, both hit with equal power. Petrova has the better serve by far. Anke was a much faster mover.

I thought of Petrova as well. Not so much because their games are/were similar. Both they both were pretty good players, just not great players. Or maybe Patty Schnyder in the vain that all three ladies were consistently ranked 8-20 and usually had one or two tournaments a year that they performed really well at and typically makes a lot of 4th rounds at Grand Slams and an occasional quarterfinal. But were just never really big moment players or big title contenders.

Never chase love, affection or attention. If it isn't given to you freely by another person, then it isn't worth having.

I think you all havent seen Anke often?
Anke and Nadia are different, I dont think that they have much in common, beside the topspin fh, especially the character is totally different, I mean sure, they both have/had mental problems on court, but this has nothing to do with the character of someone....

Can you explain how they're different? From all the matches I've seen with Anke (downloaded matches of her against Hingis), she's a pretty standard aggressive baseliner. She's got a good backhand, above average mobility, loopy forehand, meh serve and decent net skills. I'd actually say she reminds me a lot of Zvonareva.

well, I have seen all of her matches from the point on I could watch, and her fist serve was good, her 2nd serve as weak, yeah, as many DFs, but she moved pretty well had a great bh and fh, cant say that her fh was loopy on a good day.
To make it short, she was able to beat anyone back then on a good day, sure she didnt show her best tennis often, but she was for sure more aggressive than Zvonareva and could hit the ball really hard.

Who would you compare her to then? She was good, but her game certainly wasn't unique.

well, unigue doenst mean that she was best of all, I jus think that it is not possible to compare her with others, as she had her on game...I think it is always difficult to compare players..

Re: Who would the present day Anke Huber be?

My only thought on that...retired much too early...really much too early (she was 26)

good to see how she could trouble the belgians in her last fall

in a way she is close to kim...popular with fans and players and lack of motivation at an early age

Re: Who would the present day Anke Huber be?

I think she had always the problem, that she never get enough credits for what she had done. GSfinal (Australian Open 96),Masters final (Graf won only in five sets), number 4 in the world and div. wins of wta tournaments.
But the german press had nearly all the time only Steffi Graf in their headlines. Steffi and her success, Steffi wipes the floor with her opponents in 30 minutes, Steffi and her father, Steffi and the attack at monica Seles in Hamburg, Steffi and her stalker, Steffi has no selfconfidence, reaches only the finals of grand slams, Steffi here, Steffi there...
Dont get me wrong, I liked Graf a lot. But i think it can be pretty hard as second top ten player to be always in the mighty shadow of such a big star.

The Z' comparison isn't so bad, but, as I recall, Anke took the ball significantly earlier than Vera.
