All Netherlands players in Wheelchair SFs.

Any idea why all the wheelchair players are from the Netherlands? Do they put special emphasis on the sport there on something?

I read somewhere that the Netherlands have a very inclusive policy regarding handicapped people. So I guess it's easier for someone in a wheelchair to have access to a tennis court in that country.

Interesting. It's truly amazing that all four SFists are from the Netherlands, a country who doesnt appear much on the normal tour.

All I know is that there seem to be a lot of people in wheelchairs in the Netherlands. Whenever I go there, I seem to see a lot of people in those electric wheelchairs (blocking the road or hitting the pedestrians) and at every event (like sports or music events), there are special stands for wheel chair people.

Re: All Netherlands players in Wheelchair SFs.

there were like 10 wheel chair players for the US Open in my hotel at NY last week, and all I heard was people talking dutch
don't know how it comes, but it seems logical to me that once you have one or two great players, more will come, because there's more attention, better accomodations etc.

It reminded me that when I was @ FedCup in february there was a man in a wheelchair with dutch team (you don't see it that often in tennis huh) so handicapped people are probably treated really well in the Netherlands. The man talked to Johanna Larsson (who's obviously not dutch) offering her something (didn't hear the convo well and i'm not a fan of eavesdropping.. though i was really curious ) so i actually wondered what's his job

Whatever you do now,
the world still turns.

We cripple anyone with a bit of talent, so we can look good in at least one discipline...
