An Interivew with Chris Evert on ESPN2

So Chris Evert was just interviewed on ESPN2 and she was asked about the womens game and the different number ones in the past few years. What struck me is what she said. She said something that I had been feeling for so long and perhaps maybe some of you others. Ill try and quote what she said but it all happened so fast. lol

*She mentioned that back when herself and Martina dominated that there were no real threats. Now there are players coming out of countries she has never heard of and a far greater percentage of players attempting to break through than ever before. I guess she was trying to point out that there are many good players today rather than a consistant top 10 in the old era.

*Evert also mentioned that back then you went from tournament to tournament. Now adays it seems players have so many interests on and off the court thus distracting them from a tennis state of mind.

Noting on grunts but it seems she thinks the final will be Williams and Wozniacki with Serena winning.

But really im just curious as to what yall think about the fact that maybe its hard to have a consistant top 10 because of a far greater percentage of great tennis players outside the top 20 than ever before?

Madison Brengle!!

Agree and dissagree. There are a lot of players on the verge of breaking through, but not even 5% of them keeps up with that level and will stay in the top 20 for over 12 months, and eventually they'll fall faster than the quick jump they made.

Ex professionals will say this. They were moulded in the days when the women's tour was new: BJK had fought for women's tennis to be recognised. The players are committing sacriledge if they talk down women's tennis, because they played for its future survival and development. Players like Evert passed the batton on. And, of course, they want to promote women's tennis because otherwise it will be completely forgotten, even when it is entertaining, by the patriarchal media and broadcasters.

Don't take any notice. Women's tennis is rubbish at the moment; anybody who watches and sees knows this.
