There's no point playing ITF events unless you're actually bothered.
Sometimes players have catastrophic losses of confidence, but in Nicole's case I tend to think it's more of a loss of interest in the game. Her game was pretty much flawless. Her movement wasn't amazing, but there was no great problem with it. Technically, she was number one potential. I don't see that much could have gone wrong if she's working hard.
To play on the ITF, where you collect your own balls and win peanuts per match, you have to be tough, and to really want to get yourself out of those circumstances. Most are players with no dreams, who just want to eke out an average wage doing what they do best. And she'd make her own way, with no chauffeur service, cross country to challengers in the middle of Romania, or the Ukraine.
I can't see Nicole doing that.
