Flipkens: "I broke Dokic's game down with my slice" Is that possible?

She said in an interview on sporza.be

It is possible to break somebody down by slicing a lot?

It appears that a lot of girls nowadays don't know how to handle slice. It that because it's just
so hard to counter slice, or just that the girls don't train enough on it?

Maybe coaches should incorporate it much more in their training, how to counter BH slices?

Anyway, if you can't handle slice, like Dokic today, it's really a lack of technique, and therefore Flipkens was the deserved winner of this match, just because she simply outplayed Dokic!

Flipper did her homework well. Before the match Kim texted her as well with some tips.
She obviously knew that she would have to slice a lot to break Dokic and it happened.

Jelena just couldn't handle those slow/low slices of Flipper.

Re: Flipkens: "I broke Dokic's game down with my slice" Is that possible?

Well, quotes like 'I lost against myself' are more inreasonable, because normally you have like two players on court, and if can't score enough points, it means you were unable to handle whatever your opponent gave you.

You can only lose against yourself if you're playing against a wall, but at the same time you also win against yourself... (if there's a loser, there's a winner, no?)

whatever, this is another discussion...

It's possible if you're playing Dokic

Re: Flipkens: "I broke Dokic's game down with my slice" Is that possible?

Of course it is possible, but it is also just another way of saying: "I kept the ball in play until she made an error", but it sounds way cooler when you say it her way.

- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a reigning world #1.
- Caroline Wozniacki has never beaten a top 5 player at a major.
- Caroline Wozniacki has not beaten a top 3 player en route to any of her 23 titles.
- Caroline Wozniacki has beaten two top 5 players en route to her 23 titles (#4 Zvonareva and #5 Schiavone)

-Her fans think she had very bad luck with her Grand Slam and Regular Tour draws.

Any player with a grip like Dokic's will find it hard getting under a good slice backhand.

That's why Venus Williams for example used to struggle against Novotna and Graf.

She also did this last year against Safarova at Estoril Open, and it was clay...Safarova struggled with Flipkens' slices.

Re: Flipkens: "I broke Dokic's game down with my slice" Is that possible?

I don't mean any disrespect to Flipkens at all, but Jelena beat herself yesterday!!

Her terrible serving, impatience on the groundstrokes and a lack of fight are the reasons that Flipkens is in R2!
