Unhappy Amélie Mauresmo is thinking about a retirement

The original article in french : her interview

Only questions 1 to 3 are interesting so I will try to translate them.

Amélie Mauresmo, how do you explain your success against Top Ten players and your problems against lower ranked players this season?

A : There are some matchs much more exciting. This is for that kind of match against those kind of opponents that I am still playing. This season, it is easier for me to show my best and to play the best against those players. It is true I know them well but less about the players who are ranked around #20-#30. It may be a factor. I have played a lot Dementieva, Jankovic and Kuznetsova.

In a Slam, is the first week the hardest ?

Yes. I've felt much more adrenaline or emotions than in previous matches when I played Dinara Safina for instance, on the central of Wimbledon. Against Pennetta, there is intensity, engagement/kick-off ( I don't find the right word) and high level, but something is missing.

Does competing with Top Ten players give you some hunger to continue playing?

Last week reassured me. I was pretty pessimistic before New Haven. It was hard at the trainings, after coming back from vacation. I had not a stellar level of play. I was very frustated and irritated. Match after match, win after win, it has been improved. I am getting my bearings back. I am telling myself I can compete with those players. This is a good new. I was convinced of that on grass. But I was mentally hurt so much by my loss at Wimbledon. So then, I could not believe on my chances on competing against them on more neutral surface as greenset. I will take my decision at the end of the season.
That desire and fire will determine my choice.
The fire was not really there ten days ago, and last week, it was back. There are some ups and downs.

It's really nothing new She's said, even at the beginning of the year, that she would see what would be at the end of the year.

I just wish her a good U.S. Open and end of season
