Can't wait for the USO.
Coloured clothing, hot dog stands everywhere, night matches, noisy fans up in the cheap seats, Annabel Croft & Eurosport, Lisa Minnelli singin at the closing ceremony,
game-show hosts presenting the trophy's.
The USO does make for exceedingly good TV, regardless of what you think of the atmosphere. Too bad Eurosport's coverage has been truncated in recent years. Live tennis in the evening
What I like about Wimbledon:
- first day with pristine grass - it looks wonderful; every year I always watch the first televised match from Queen's, regardless of who's playing, for the same reason
- more laid back schedule (13:00 start for televised coverage)
- all-white means the tennis chicks have to ditch the garish, tacky outfits they use during the rest of the year, though some still find a way to look ridiculous (e.g. Sharapova)
- ATP rock fights make for a change from the endless topspin rallies we're stuck with for the rest of the year
I go back and forth as to whether I prefer Eurosport's coverage of the Slams or the one the local sports channel does for Wimbledon. ES hops from court to court much more, so I do end up seeing more stuff, but unfortunately most of it tends to be meaningless, boring mugfests between mid-ranked French and/or German ATP players.
But the first 4 days of the Slams always make me giddy. There's just so much stuff happening.
