Thank God Wimbledon's Over!

Here in the UK we have had Murray Hype/Hysteria; saturation TV; saturation media - newspapers/radio. The same old tunes regurgitated over and over again on the news: Federer and 15. The Williams' days in crime ridden LA. The Williams' rivalry and how much they love each other. Has been commentators jumping on bandwagons and changing their tunes: one minute the Williams are finished and don't play enough and then they are the greatest thing ever and doing the right thing pacing themselves.

All the banging on about tradition and how special Wimbledon is. Brass bands bleating on Centre Court. Armed Forces personnel being paraded around. And lots more, over and over again. Even McEnroe couldn't stop giglling at all this so called 'tradition'.

It left me wondering if it's like this in Australia, Frane and the US: constant repetition of trivia over and over again!

Anyway, I'm glad it's all over and can now get back to watching tournaments on Eurosport. Even if I am just a miserable old git!

Agreed, when Federer won I didn't want anything to do with it anymore. The all-Williams final and Federer winning capped a horrible 2 weeks.

Apart from all the Murray mania (which was really really over the top, I had to turn off the commentary half of the times) it was a good wimbledon

Re: Thank God Wimbledon's Over!

I know what you mean, but I do LOVE WImbledon; so much tennis to watch, all the white clothes, beautiful courts at the start, all simple and elegant.

However, I WON'T miss John Inverdale, Andrew Castle, MURRAYMANIA, Murray#s Gang of Chavs, Murray's "Come ons!", Murray and his miserable face, everything Murray basically, Fed-worshipping, inane debates about women grunters, choking, and crappy all WS finals. LOL.

Re: Thank God Wimbledon's Over!

The "Fed 15" was indeed over the top, but very understandable given the achievement. The hype on Murray meanwhile was disgusting. The guy reached ONE grand slam final, then suddenly he was going to beat Roger in the Wimbledon final, and is the favorite in every grand slam final he enters. It's ridiculous.

Right after Federer won Wimbledon, people are already talking about Murray winning the US Open!

Re: Thank God Wimbledon's Over!

I hope Murray never wins a Slam.

I'm kinda sad it's over, such a long break now until the next meaningful tournament.

Seconded. What's more, I'm getting easily bored watching all the same girls from top 10 again and again. Now, when MM tourney are back, we can watch people like Margalita Chaknashvili, Johanna Larsson, Marta Domachowska, Ula Radwanska, Karolina Sprem live

The USO does make for exceedingly good TV, regardless of what you think of the atmosphere. Too bad Eurosport's coverage has been truncated in recent years. Live tennis in the evening

What I like about Wimbledon:

- first day with pristine grass - it looks wonderful; every year I always watch the first televised match from Queen's, regardless of who's playing, for the same reason

- more laid back schedule (13:00 start for televised coverage)

- all-white means the tennis chicks have to ditch the garish, tacky outfits they use during the rest of the year, though some still find a way to look ridiculous (e.g. Sharapova)

- ATP rock fights make for a change from the endless topspin rallies we're stuck with for the rest of the year

I go back and forth as to whether I prefer Eurosport's coverage of the Slams or the one the local sports channel does for Wimbledon. ES hops from court to court much more, so I do end up seeing more stuff, but unfortunately most of it tends to be meaningless, boring mugfests between mid-ranked French and/or German ATP players.

But the first 4 days of the Slams always make me giddy. There's just so much stuff happening.

Thank God indeed. The biggest snooze ever that the high handed royal mugs are desperately trying to sell us as the greatest thing ever. Ugh.
