Things to Take Away from Wimbledon 2009 (from a Williams perspective).

1.) Serena's serve remains as one of the best shots of all-time. It has won her a lot of majors, particularly the majors (AOs, Wimbledon 09) where she has to dig and scrap her way to the finals. 12 aces, 94% winning % on her 1st serve, 71% on the second serve in the final. Superb. GOAT-like.

2.) Venus' knee DEFINITELY affected her play in today's final, especially after the first set. She was clearly hampered by it on serve and at the back of the court. You are in denial if you don't think she was affected by some sort of knee injury. Venus was not at her best today.

3.) Serena's tougher path throughout the tournament helped her in the final against Venus. Played the bigger points better, although there were few crucial moments. Venus was never tested en route to the final and I think the fact that Serena dug out of that SF helped her mentally in the final.

4.) It would be foolish to count Venus out for the rest of the season. I can't even count how many times either Williams sister has been counted out during their lengthy careers, only to silence their detractors later on. People counted Venus out after Wimbledon/USO last year and she had a great fall and eventually won the YEC. She played well in Dubai and won a clay court title this year and pushed Safina in Rome. Never count out a Williams sister.

5.) Serena is the real #1. Best fighter/clutch player this game has ever seen.

6.) STEP TO THIS.

Another thing to take away: Victoria Azarenka has crappy luck with her quarterfinal draws in slams. :P

Good list though

Serena really proved who is the best player in the world today.

Another thing to take away: I dont think anyone gives a shit. I mean after 11 slams what are you trying to prove?

Paszek & Chakvetadze & Vaidisova & Sharapova & Pavlyuchenkova & Vekic.

Every time you walk on the court, you're trying to prove that you're better than the person on the other side of the net.

7. The sisters have clearly moved back in time. Last year they played 3 high quality matches. Since then? One high quality set (third set of Dubai). Miami, YEC, today have been terrible quality

They are clearly the best two players in the world, IMO. That's good for the sport. BUt it's bad for the sport when the best two players cant consistently produce high quality affairs. This is part of the reason that 10 years ago women's tennis was better.

Agree with #1. Serena's serve was unbelievable all tournament long. That shot alone won her Wimbledon.
