Which possible matches are you most looking forward to?

Now that the MD is out, round by round which match-ups are you most looking forward to?

Here are mine:

First Round
Dementieva v.Kudryavtseva
Dementieva is defending sf points, so found some grass court form last year, but Alla has a big game and took Venus Williams to 7-5 third set at Wimbledon in 2007. They have never played before.

Dementieva triumphs fairly easily.

Second Round
Dinara v. Vaidisova
Dinara is not comfortable on grass; Nicole is and could cause the first seed upset, IF she can manage to find just a little bit of form. Nicole leads h2h 2-0, but they haven't played since 2007.

Vaidisova crashes out Round 1. Will she ever get her career back on track?

Third Round
Mauresmo v. Pennetta, 3rd Round
Always exciting to watch this match-up. Both really all court players, though Mauresmo is clearly the better grasscourt player. Their h2h is tied, though they have never played on grass.
First one to happen. Should be
But Momo favored on grass.
Momo prevails and avoids a third set marathon.

Fourth Round
Sharapova v. Azarenka, 4th Round
Maria returning from injury, but on one of her favored surfaces against an in-form Azarenka. Azarenka leads h2h 1-0, but they have never played on grass and the winner will likely get the pleasure of having to take out Serena Williams in the next round to advance.

Dream match deferred. Maria crashes out.

Quarterfinal
Venus v. Na Li/Jankovic QF
Jankovic is the last person to beat Venus on grass and the only active player with a winning h2h against her on grass. Na Li knocked Venus out of the Olympics. both will be revenge matches for Venus fans.

Both Li and Jankovic crash out. Serena v. Azarenka should be a good one to watch instead.

Semi-final
Venus v. Amelie
If both are playing well, this could easily be a classic Wimbledon final. Contrasting styles between two champions. Their matches are always three-setters. Venus dominated winning the first five matches, but Amelie has won the last three. They have not played since 2005 and never on grass.

Final
Williams v. Williams
Well, I wouldn't say that I'm looking forward to it, but an all-Williams final would be the most probable of finals. These two are tied overall, and 2-2 specifically on grass, BUT Serena holds a 2-1h2h2 in the Wimbledon finals. AND, the last time Venus was trying to three-peat in 2002, it was none other than Serena Williams who stopped her.

Discuss yours and say why!

Kanepi vs. Suarez Navarro is quite an interesting R1 match. Don't forget CSN was a Top 25 player before RG rankings fell off

HANTUCHOVA

& JANKOVIC & LISICKI & WOZNIACKI & GÖRGES & CIBULKOVA & MUGURUZA

it will be funny if Nicole can make a 3rd in that form, but i think in that Wimbly Dinara can lose easy matches as well as get some unexpected heads

i really hope Flavia can get that 3rd, coz i'm not sure she will menage to...if it is, it will be a fantastic match if they both can play their best

Re: Which possible matches are you most looking forward to?

Ivanovic vs Venus if Ana manages to reach the fourth round... if that happens, I think it will be ugly for ana, and she should be happy to win four games in that match

Maria vs Serena QF classic, will be the match of the tournament...

I think Amelie can upset safina in the third round, since the number 1 is not good on grass

Venus vs Jankovic could be a major beatdown for Jelena, even if she´s the last player to beat venus on grass...

Dokic vs Stosur will be fun too... thay´re a lot of exciting matches this year

Looking forward to the best two players of this generation/decade facing off in yet another final.

Step to this.

I love how Alla taking Venus to a 3rd set in 2007 is more memorable than beating Sharapova in 2008

Re: Which possible matches are you most looking forward to?

1R: Robson vs Hantuchova - It will be interesting to see how junior Wimbledon champion Robson handles playing in the main draw for the first time. She is already being groomed by some in the british media as a possible future champion at SW19 and this will be a big test for her. If she's truely destined for greatness, she should win this match.

2R: S. Williams vs Safarova - Dangerous early round opponent here for Williams. Safarova is very inconsistent, but if she is on she will pose a challenge to the world #2. It could be an upset, but I'd rather Williams win this match because I want to see a QF showdown with Sharapova.

3R: Sharapova vs Petrova - A repeat of RG2009 2R. I don't think the match will go three sets this time. Maria is probably feeling very confident against Petrova right now - having beaten her in all but one of their career meetings - and grass is a better surface for her. I think Sharapova takes this in straight sets.

4R: Sharapova vs Azarenka - Should they both get this far, I expect this to be an interesting match. The former "It Girl" vs the new "It Girl." Azarenka seems talented enough, but by blowing away the lead she had on Safina at RG, she also showed mental immaturity. If Sharapova can keep her serve under control and come into the match relatively fresh, her big match experiance and mental toughness should prevail.

QF: Sharapova vs S. Williams - Oh how I've longed for another Williams/Sharapova showdown. I have a feeling that there is no love loss between these two and behind all the fake smiles and polite praises of respect lays an ugly, competitive struggle for supremecy. No doubt Sharapova will want revenge on Williams for what transpired in the past. As a Sharapova fan, no sweeter feeling could be had than seeing S. Williams fall at the hands of Maria Sharapova on the lawns of the AEC once more. I've been waiting for Maria to get her revenge on Serena for years now, will it happen in the next two weeks?

SF: Sharapova vs Cibulkova - I have a feeling that Cibulkova will make it to her second SF in as many grand slams. She is probably riding high after a steller performance at Roland Garros and her draw seems managable. The player from her quarter whom I consider her biggest challenge is Dementieva and Elena looks like she's on a rapid decline. If the two meet in the 4R, I think it will be a 3 set win for Cibulkova. Should she make it to the Semis, I hope she faces Sharapova and I hope Maria gets her revenge for RG, by beating Domi to reach her second wimby final.

F: Sharapova vs V. Williams - It would be amazing if Maria could make the final at only her 4th tournament back after a 10 month layoff. If she can win the title in two weeks, it would be absolutely amazing. Doing it by beating Venus is just an added bonus.

None, or maybe the final. After that it will be all over.

There is just no way in hell, Venus Williams is going to lose to Sharapova in a Wimbledon final.

It might take all of breakfast at Wimbledon, lunch and dinner, but family honor will be on the line and Venus is NOT going to let another Williams go do to Maria in a Wimbledon final.

If Maria was in better form, it might not be only on Venus' racket. But in the unlikely event that Maria gets past Azarenka and Serena, it will be game, set, match: Venus Williams.

thanks for contributing to the thread though and giving your reasons. BTW, I agree about Serena v. Maria QF. that would be awesome.
