Marion "Quitter" Bartoli: Today "achieved" her 20th career retirement

I think it's important to keep this in mind, especially in light of today's match and Razzano's comments in the press conference yesterday. Bartoli is always complaining about some injury, and, more than that, she constantly tanks and quits. This is not the "stuff of champions." Federer never retires from a match.

I really like Marion sometimes, and her game is beautiful to watch when she's in form, but this is just really pathetic and embarrassing. Retiring so often is disrespectful to the opponent and the fans who pay big bucks to watch tournaments.

2002:
ITF La Canada, SF, Granville def. Bartoli 6-1, 1-0 ret.

2003:
WTA LA, R64, Snyder def. Bartoli 6-3, 4-2 ret.

2004:
WTA Birmingham, R64, Pennetta def. Bartoli 1-1 ret.
WTA Bali, R16, Garbin def. Bartoli 6-0, 2-0 ret.

2005: (about 20% of tournaments entered this year, that’s one in every five)
WTA Canberra, QF, Ivanovic def. Bartoli 6-1, 2-0 ret.
WTA Pattaya City, R16, Serna def. Bartoli 6-4 ret.
WTA Dubai, R16, Myskina def. Bartoli 4-2 ret.
WTA Eastbourne, QF, Dushevina def. Bartoli 5-0 ret.
WTA Quebec City, SF, Arvidsson def. Bartoli 6-4, 1-0 ret.

2006:
WTA Charleston, R16, Castano def. Bartoli 5-4 ret.
WTA Rabat, R32, Kloesel def. Bartoli 6-2, 2-0 ret.

2007:
WTA Estoril, QF, Llagostera Vives def. Bartoli 6-2, 3-1 ret.
WTA Toronto, QF, Yan def. Bartoli 6-2, 3-0 ret.
WTA Zurich, QF, Golovin def. Bartoli 4-5 ret.

2008:
WTA Strasbourg, R16, Peng def. Bartoli 6-1, 1-0 ret.
WTA Cincinnati, R32, Jackson def. Bartoli 7-6, 2-2 ret.
WTA Moscow, R32, Cibulkova def. Bartoli 6-1, 4-1 ret.

2009:
WTA Sydney, R32, South def. Bartoli 1-1 ret.
WTA Dubai, R16, Zvonareva def. Bartoli 5-2 ret.
WTA Eastbourne, SF, Razzano def. Bartoli 6-4, 1-0 ret.

GRAND TOTAL: 20 retirements in 8 seasons = 2.5 per year = not good

Almost all the matches she retired are when she was on the losing side.

with Stevenson around this is nothing to talk about!

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

no injuries that are true injuries force players to retire like tati vs sharapova in miami, pierce vs vera in linz or ALG vs sharapova in moscow. when you see injuries like these you realise how much bartoli takes the piss out of the trainers and retiring.

true injuries are stomach churning and can happen when the player is winning as well as losing.

Well said, and if all of her injuries are so bad, then why does she usually play a tournament the very next week or two weeks after a retirement? Very suspicious.

Yes this is true. I had a look at all those retirements and in the vast majority of cases she was back playing tennis 1 or 2 weeks later. In some cases just four or five days later, infact. I personally have nothing against Bartoli. When she is playing well she if fun to watch and her Wimbledon run was dramatic, remarkable and quite deserved.

As for the topic of this thread I don't really want to say anything else about it myself but I would add the fact that so often Bartoli plays just one or two weeks after retiring injured says a great deal on it's own without any additional words needed.
