Re: Qualifying Americans :(

Melanie. Don't worry, I'm a firm believer that what we have coming, assuming proper development and no injuries, will be good. Melanie Oudin and Alexa Glatch are both breaking through to the top 100. Christina McHale and Sloane Stephens are two solid prospects at age 16. The lesser known 16-year-old Lauren Davis is also at the top of her age group, and just recently won a G3 junior tournament as a qualifier, in what was only her third ITF tournament. Madison Keys, of course, has already proved to have big potential and she's just 14. Coco Vandeweghe, age 18, won the junior US Open. She started tennis late and while she has done little so far on the pro circuit, it wouldn't surprise me if she was a late bloomer. Junior player Sachia Vickery is also highly touted by many. I think that in 3-4 years, American tennis will be looking much better.

Serena Williams ~ Maria Sharapova ~ Venus Williams ~ Jelena Dokic ~ Melanie Oudin ~ Christina McHale

Vandeweghe ~ Mattek-Sands ~ King ~ Hampton ~ Riske ~ Glatch ~ Brengle ~ Rogers ~ Stephens ~ Boserup ~ Davis ~ Keys ~ Lepchenko ~ Falconi ~ Chirico ~ Crawford ~ Gibbs ~ Pegula ~ Min ~ Townsend ~ Duval ~ Vickery ~ Bellis ~ Ahn

I definitely agree that Kristie is promising, however I've heard that she is leaning more toward the college route.

Re: Qualifying Americans :(

I'm not really into the country thing, so it doesn't worry me, but Oudin is actually pretty good.

More American companies will stop sponsoring WTA tournaments.

Yeah, its a sad mess for US. The up and coming females are useless and it isn't much better with the men either. As far as I am concern Andy and Blake together do not make one.

Re: Qualifying Americans :(

The 3 girls who lost were Perry, Brengle and Spears. I don't think many people were suggesting that any of them are the future of US tennis. The future is people like Keys, Vickery, McHale, Stephens, Ahn, etc.

Lindsay Lee-Waters lost too, but she's not the future either

I think people had hopes for Brengle, but it's looking like she's just a future journeywoman.

I don't know what happened to Perry. I'm guessing she's been plagued with injuries? She made the second week of Wimbledon and 3R at the French in 2006, but her career's gone no where since

Re: Qualifying Americans :(

^ Yeah, Brengle and Albanese both have/had promise, but it looks like they will be floaters in the 100-200 range unless something changes.

Yep. Shenay has had major injury problems. Both Shenay and Jamea Jackson got injured just as their careers were taking off.
