Wimbledon should revert to seeding by straight WTA rankings.

I couldn't help noticing that poster Dawn Marie started 2 threads complaining about the Wimbledon seedings. The first of which I have to agree: seeding Masha 24 at Wimby is bullshit and verges on illegal draw fixing. The Wimby organizers could have quietly seeded Masha 25 or below and got away without much fuss, but they just had to show the world their asses and sneak her in that higher category where she won't have to face a top player in 3rd round.

The 2nd thread of Dawn Marie, well, Dinara Safina is clearly the #1 player in the world by ranking and if she seeded #1, well nobody has a right to complain about that. To seed the Williams sisters #1 and #2 would have been equally draw tampering, to seeding Masha #24. So I say that enough with this bullshit of changing around the seedings to suit the pleasure of the event. The ITF should force Wimbeldon to use WTA rankings like the other 3 Slams do.

Re: Wimbledon should revert to seeding by straight WTA rankings.

The one year Nadal was seeded #1 at the FO is the only year he didn't win it.
It doesn't matter what the seeds are.

oh. Well, in that case, lets just not have any seeding at all, since it doesn't matter what the seeds are. Thanks for clearing that up, I can't believe the ITF never thought of it. I'm going to call them right now.

The rankings reflect the last 52 weeks, not what is going to happen the next 2 weeks.
If they move Sharapova up, it's because they feel it helps them.

This is so tiring. First of all, it is hillarious that you think the ITF has the authority to tell Wimbledon what to do...what, pray tell, do you think would happen if the ITF placed sanctions on the event? Do you really think Rogi and Rafa would not show up? That the tournament would suffer?

Second of all, seeding Maria at no. 24 is necessary since the WTA eliminated injury protection seedings.

"Revert back"? Nothing to revert back to. Wimbledon has always reserved this right. It's tradition.

Pas de Quatre:
Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Coppélia

And what's more, there has almost never been a year when Wimbledon seeded strictly according to rankings.

The fuss is nonsensical. Anyone claiming that Maria is not one of the 3 best in the world on grass is...smoking grass.

Was she the third best last year when she lost in the second round?

She was playing better at this point in the season last year. There's nothing to suggest sh'es worthy of a seeding at this point.

Re: Wimbledon should revert to seeding by straight WTA rankings.

I wonder if Dawn Marie would be singing a different tune if a non-seeded Sharapova drew Serena or Venis in round 1.I do think seeding Venus at #1 would have been a good move though. As a multiple champ she deserves it.

And LOL@ the ITF telling Wimbledon what to do.

Do you realize she only played one more match after Wimbledon and then had surgery last year?

yeah, I dont even understand WHY they took out the injury rules....

What SHOULD be going on to avoid a whole mess..

A) Reinstate protected rankings....I really dont understand why they got rid of them.... Makes nosense for a top ten player to not play for 6 months and then draw other top ten players in round 2....

B) If Wimbledon isnt gonna go by the rankings (which i think they should grass is sooooo short a season) then they should use the same formula they use for the men. I also dont understand why they dont do this....

Safina wouldnt have been seeded #1 and Sharapova would have had a much higher seeding than 24 if both of these things were the case...

Venus Ebony Starr

Serena Williams

Sharapova

Hantuchova

No

Sharapova's seeding is completely justified.

Sucks for Alona, but it's the way it is. Any argument against Masha's seeding is ridiculous - Sharapova is a by far, far, far likelier winner of the title than Alona, and that's the end of it. Not seeding her would be silly for the draw, can you imagine a Venus - Sharapova first round?

Regrettably a life long fan of Ana Ivanović.
