Is Roland Garros jinxed for Venus Williams?

Venus Williams lost on the Parisian clay once again as even after 13 years from her Grand slam debut in 1997, Venus is still without the Suzanne Lenglen Cup.

Seven time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams made her major debut at Roland Garros 13 years ago. Ironically, this is one Grand Slam ( Australian Open is over, so don't bother wondering ) that has been sort of a nightmare for the current world number three. Perhaps, it is safe to say so as well, since the only saving grace for Williams on parisian clay came in 2002 when she made it to the finals and lost to sister Serena.

Today turned out to be no different as Hungarian Agnes Szavay bagled..... http://www.tennisearth.com/news/tenn...ams-425338.htm

I don't think Venus will ever win an AO or FO, nor do I believe she'll win an USO again. I think she'll win, maybe two more Wimbledon's and a YE Championship.

Venus - 7 Grand Slam Titles -- 49 Singles Titles -- World Rank: #17 |

Some people are acting as if she is the one player to have trouble with a particular surface. Some of the great players were unable to win on all four.

Makes me laugh all the time - as soon as someone makes 'negative remark(s)' about a player someone likes they jump in and start defending them and pointing fingers on others.

Was i suprised she lost? No - expected her to lose to Safarova in round before (probably would happen if Lucie was in form). Writting on the wall when she lost a set to Mattek Sands in opening round!

Re: Is Roland Garros jinxed for Venus Williams?

Venus has all the qualities of a champion, someone who can win all four slams. The only mystery is should all slams be played in the second half of the season so that williams may win????

I have not given up hope (yet) that Venus can win the FO one day. Maybe I am an eternal optimist. Who's to say? She did win the Year End Tournament last year after many tries.
Venus just played a terrible match today. It happens. No excuses. Can't blame the FO organisers (and I usually blame them if my tea is too hot) Bottom line Venus played badly today.

i could not agree more with you Pal....Even i believe that the year end championships that eluded the champion for so long eventually came in her kitty, better late than never.....!
Hope she wins all four by the time she wraps up her career

Re: Is Roland Garros jinxed for Venus Williams?

Venus simply is not that strong on clay. End of quesiton. You can speak of all her clay court titles, but how many top players has she defeated in the past 5 or 6 years on the red stuff?

Re: Is Roland Garros jinxed for Venus Williams?

For the last few years, the only surface she's really excelled on (consistently) is grass. It's not about being jinxed; she's just not confident enough in her abilities outside grass and her game just falls apart. I don't understand why though. She has the game to beat just about anyone on any surface.

This is like asking "Is Wimbledon jinxed for Justine Henin?"
