Amelie's latest quotes on the Williams.

This was posted in another thread but it got me wondering why suddenly Martina Hingis has become extremely complimentary towards the Williams sisters while players like Capriati, Henin and lately Amelie are letting their feelings be known. I think Amelie truly believes in her heart that the Williams match in France was predetermined. Either that or something has happened behind the scenes between Amelie and Venus on the players' council. I think it's great that Amelie is willing to be HONEST in her answers though. It adds spice to the WTA and she has the game to back it up.

"As I say, they're not going to be in the finals forever," Mauresmo said.

In an interview with the French reporters yesterday, Mauresmo was asked if she admired the way Venus fought back from love-40 to win the match.

"For sure, she got back from 0-40, but, no, I don't admire her," Mauresmo said. "That means what it means."

Well sometimes I just wonder if the WTA plans some of these stupid rivalries. First it was Hingis, then Hingis and Davenport, then Capriati, now Mauresmo and Henin who are supposedly having this war with the Williams. So sue me for being an insomniac. I drank too much Starbucks. I think the rivalries add flair to the game considering that Amelie has always been seen as the "meek European and shy French girl". Suddenly out of no where she is making bold statement on and off the court.

Sorry you got annoyed Anton.

I think CBS said Amelie is living in Switzerland now. I'm not really annoyed but apporaching that point. I do want to congrat. Amelie. I did not see the match but its good. I would have been nervous maybe. But from what I hear she played well and that semi was more of a match than the Linday-Serena. I feel sorry for Lindsay. I wanted her to win of of those set points. Also I wanted to see more tennis so I was pulling for the 3rd set. since I missed Venus-AM.

True Hater, despite Chucky's outspoken tendencies. She likes being popular in the general populace of tennis fans. It was safe for her to go after the Sisters verbally a few of years ago. But she began to look pathetic (even with the #1 ranking because most people who knew anything about tennis recognized Venus as the best player as early as 2000).

No one is more insecure about her place in the WTA than Chucky. The smartest thing she can do is acknowledge the Sister's greatness. That way when she finally takes one from them (clay court season before the French 2003) it will be recognized as an accomplishment instead of an "it's about time" situation.

As for Momo and Henin, my opinion is that they are stating the general sour grapes of the rest of the WTA and are probably encouraged in the locker room in their stupid efforts to tarnish the sisters.

JCap is just a dumb jock who hasn't discovered the words "no comment" yet. Nothing deep going on there.

Normally I don't respond to your posts because they are obviously anti-The Greatest Living Tennis Players On Earth, but I just got in from a great night on the Sunset Strip and am in an indulgent mood.

Now that I have been candid with you, answer me this honestly. Are you jealous of Serena? You seem to obsess on her wearing a tiara an awful lot. Perhaps you wish you were Serena Williams.

Go ahead and admit the root of your hater envy.

The truth will set you free.

If your fave's coach isn't Richard Williams, that's just her first problem...

Amelie always have big mouth against the Williams sister. In the end, she couldn't do much with them.

Yes, Amelie does have a big mouth, but I honestly believe that she is the greatest threat to the Williams sisters at the moment

I don't see why amélie would have to admire the Williams. Hello! She's not a fan, she's an opponent!

Do people actually realise that it is a translated quote from French. Maybe what Amelie means in French does not mean as offencsive as it sounds in english, I think a lot of people had learnt about that through the 'half a man ' comment in 99, obviously they forgot

I think her comments improve.
first she said: I go for 3
then: I want to beat them
now: this will not always be the case
next time she will say: I will beat the crap out of them.

I love serena but her opponent don't have to talk like they are cows brought to the slaughter, that would be bad spirit!

I also agree that players shouldn't admire other players. Truth be told, I doubt that the Williams admire Momo (granted the Sisters would have much less reason to admire Momo than Momo has reason to admire them).

Players like Lindsay and Monica are of a different breed in that they admire players who are obviously supremely talented. Momo just happens to not be like that. And if I had to bet, I would say that there's a very fine line between having a lot of admiration for your opponent, and having a mental block against your opponent. The Williams Sisters and Momo's way seems the best approach to winning.

Momo just doesn't have the "HEART OF CHAMPION!!" which makes her differed from Seles, Graf, Davenport.

They didn't mean ADMIRER Venus but ADMIRER how she had the WILL TO WIN. Momo didn't have to go there with her last quote. She made this quote: "That means what it means". Did she really have to put that lil sentence in there?

I don't expect Momo to admirer Venus, hell she is her rival. I just don't think she had to add that little quote. Be a bit nicer in defeat.

Or Dawn, maybe it meant she didn't feel like discussing the issue all afternoon and wanted to move on.

Whatever. We all pick and choose and decide what we want things to mean. But it would be really interesting if posters (and I do mean all of us) held their own statements up to the same scrutiny they held the players (particularly the ones they don't like)
