Hingis says another comeback unlikely

28 May 2009, 1433 hrs IST, AFP
GENEVA: Former world number one Martina Hingis
said in an interview published on Thursday that she was unlikely to make another comeback

To competitive tennis after her doping ban.

Many people ask when I will play again. But it would be too much of a burden to make it back to the top again," Hingis told the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper.

"I do not think I still have the will and the strength to produce that kind of a performance again," she added.

Hingis, now 29, was tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon
in 2007 and later announced her retirement.

Although the Swiss player reiterated on Thursday that she had not taken the drug, an independent Anti-Doping Tribunal found that she had committed an offence and she was banned for two years until October 2009.

Hingis won 43 WTA singles titles during a career stretching back to 1994, including five Grand Slams.

The ban cut short a comeback she began in 2006 after a three-year retirement, but Hingis suggested that another change of heart was unlikely.

She said she was contented with her current life and did not have the desire to stress herself by running from tournament to tournament.

"But playing a few more exhibitions, that would appeal to me," she said, also suggesting she would like to help young players.

she say also what she will write a books on this great carrer

Martina, comeback to doubles at least. They'd fight to be your partner. With your good choice, you'd still have a shot for Grand Slams!

If Caroline and Radwanska can be top ten then u know Hingis can.

Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. "Cree Native American Prophecy"

sure she could but she didn't come back just to be top ten. I think she saw Myskina win the French and believed SHE could still do it.

Martina may have realized that she can't get her serve over 100mph and will not be a force to contend with. And then too with her testing positive for drugs, she definitely gonna be tested on a regular basis.

If she came back for that reason, I'm glad she hasn't won RG then.

I don't believe her.

She said at Wimbledon 2005 that it would take a "medical miracle" for her to come back. A few months later she announced her comeback!

I like the idea of Martina being a coach although I'm pretty skeptical since she herself hated practicing, and being coached.
