Second week surprises?

Who appears to be moving on into the second week that you didn't think would? On the contrary, who did you expect to see in the second half of the tournament but has lost out early instead?

“I’m not the next anyone. I’m the first Maria Sharapova...”

Re: Second week surprises?

Well this is a tad premature since half of the players have yet to complete their second round but...
I did not expect Larcher de Brito to make the third round.
I did not expect Penneta to lose in the first round.
We will see what I say about Serena & Venus tomorrow

Serena Williams
Victoria Azarenka Venus Williams
Sloane Stephens Christina McHale

Re: Second week surprises?

i've been waiting for michelle larcher de brito to break through so i'm glad to see her making a mini run here.
would be great if she shook up the WTA and made the 2nd week.

Re: Second week surprises?

sharapova reahing the 2nd week would be a surprise to me. Now that she has beaten petrova, she can do it.
NA li has a good shot on a qf here...really a surprise to me (maybe its because of the 33th seed...)
Rezai reaching the 4th round is not a big supirse (easy draw and a good run last week)

schnyder, A Bondarenko, Penetta, Mouresmo would have been 4th round bets to me...

Larcher de Brito surprised everyone so I hope she'll make it...
