Since beating a Williams seems to be so difficult...

And since Slams are such a huge source of points, meeting them early in a Slam is not going to be kind to your ranking. I wonder who has suffered the fate of meeting a Williams in the QF or earlier at a Slam so far this year?

Lindsay Davenport: 0 times in 1 Slam
Martina Hingis: 0 times in 2 Slams
Jelena Dokic: 0 times in 3 Slams
Jennifer Capriati: 0 times in 4 Slams
Justine Henin: 0 times in 4 Slams
Amelie Mauresmo: 0 times in 4 Slams
Kim Clijsters: 0 times in 4 Slams
Daniela Hantuchova: 3 times in 4 Slams
Monica Seles: 3 times in 4 Slams

Kudos to anyone who can maintain a decent ranking under those conditions.

Also Chanda lost to them in the last 3 slams.

Chanda was vey sad too... I think she might be closer to the top 10 now had she not met them in 3 of the 3 slams she played.

Kudos to Monica and Daniela too...

Good analysis and that's something that results and rankings don't reflect (the luck or lack of it rather of the draw).

Daniela and Monica has been plain unlucky, if in another part of the draw they might done much better.

Whereas others like Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo had easier parts of the draw that has allowed them to ease into the quarters or semis.

Likewise with Chanda, if she was in the Davenport quarter of this US open, she probably would've reached the semis

That's one things I really hate about tennis

Well to be fair, Capriati and Davenport couldnt meet them in the quarters or earlier because of where they were seeded. But definitely, it seems that some players are always in Venus or Serena's quarter, and some players arent.
And at the French Open if Hantuchova had beaten Seles she would have played Venus in the quarters, so she's been in the same quarter as a sister in all four slams this year. Thats really bad luck for her. Chanda's played 3 Slams this year and each time has met a Williams in the 4th round or earlier. And each time she was playing well enough to have beaten any of the other quarterfinalists. She'd be closer to the top ten if not for her bad draw.

Well, that just goes to show that a ranking is easier to maintain than it is to attain initially. Not that I disagree with that, I think it is a pretty good system. But kudos to Monica for being right there despite tougher draws, and Chanda and Daniela more so even because they have hit the brick wall in the 3rd or 4th round on occasion.

Nadia Petrova had that bad luck last yr
injured this yr so run couldn't go on.

2000 US Open 2nd rd Serena 3-6 2-6
2001 AUS Open 2nd rd Serena 3-6 2-6
2001 French 4th rd Serena 3-6 1-6
2001 Wimbledon 4th rd Venus 2-6 0-6

4 slams in a row so she was pretty upset
and talk about bad luck (draw-wise)

Good luck to my favs

Draws are rigged and touched up. American masses have Seles as their #3 girl now. Jen and then Lindsay have overstepped Monica. Chanda will always get bad draws. She'll overcome it though. Daniela gets put in there cause she has a great game, so they hope she'll beat V@S.

I think Chanda is better than Dani, Dokic, Capriati, Seles & Hingis. i heard she was really upset about losing. She was crying. She really thought she would win.

Chanda at the moment is better imho, but during the entire year, the people who touch up the draws didn't. Of course since she beat Serena a few weeks before , they wouldn't dare put her in the same 16's as Lindsay and Jennifer. Nope, they were hoping she would knock off Venus Williams.
