This current group of players does not posess the consistent dedication to challenge VENUS & SERENA WILLIAMS.

The real challengers are between 14 - 16 years old and who are willing to train and are fearless.

Smile I Hear Ya Althea

Althea - you seem to be another poster that bit the dust. What happened to you & Informative's post? Remember when the same thing happened to me? Could it be you all hit the post reply button when the system was tooooo busy - or was it a sabatoge? Who knows????? But - I agree it is strange.

IMO - this was the borinest (sp) US Open since I started watching tennis ten years ago. Sure my faves were playing. And sure - I had faith in them - but something was missing.

Could the thing that was missing be - the fact that realistically - they were few true challengers to the Sisters rule? I am the first one to admit - that on any given day - a player can be off their game and can be beat. And sure enough - Venus had two off her game days during this fortnight - yet - she still pulled them out.

I agree w/you a whole heap of a lot. The other players aren't stepping up to challenge the Sisters enough for me. I knew Lindsay could be a challenge - becuase she has so much game and many weapons. Momo also did good to take Venus to three sets - so we have to give it to her. But in the final analysis - there was not much excitement to me during the entire tourney. I pray that the players will raise their games - and I pray the unknowns step up to challenge the Sisters.

I miss the matches Venus & Martina played - yet even that was not a real exciting prospect. The other ladies need to step up to the plate and beat the Sisters once in a while. If they don't - then you are sooo right - for in this is where the boredom comes in. kei-kei-kei-kei-kei.

I get what you're saying girlfriend. Pretty soon the Williams' fans will start to get bored if the other players don't bring the excitement when they play a Williams.

WHAT ARE YOU POSSIBLY TALKING ABOUT? THOSE SEMIS WERE A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were sooooooo high quality. I was entertained. The true competitors are the Russians. I would be shocked if Safina, Kuznetsova, Douchevina, or Sharapova does not rival the sisters in the upcoming years. Also, Strycova and Golovin seem like tough competition. I don't see any American junior with any real top ten potential (Harkleroad is a big huge joke. She plays like Hingis except with more errors). Golovin in only 14 but seems to be the real deal. I never knew.

Well, if you didn't find the semis exciting, then you really should consider following a different sport.

Heres my analysis on how the other players play with the sisters.

Venus
--------
1. Martina Hingis-
She has consistantly held her own against both of them, good for her.
2. Kim Clijsters-
Although her overall game is shaky at times, when she plays Vee she steps it up
3. Amelie Mauresmo-
Their last 3 have gone 3. She really puts in a tough effort, its just when those 30- all and break points come, she doesnt step it up.
4. Lindsay Davenport
Although their last 2 matches aren't an indicator, always gives her a fight
5. Jennifer Capriati
Shes never beaten her, but most have gone 3
6. Monica Seles
Only done it once, but when she plays well, they're always close.
7. Chanda Rubin-
Great, great performance.
8. Justine Henin-
Always gives her best
9. Daniela Hantuchova-
lost 6-4 in the third at OZ
10. Jelena Dokic-
Gets gangraped, most over-ranked player (sorry but its true)

Serena
---------
1. JCAP- Has lost last 5 but all have been tight
2. Martina Hingis- Always gives trouble
3. Justine Henin- Beat her on clay
4. Monica Seles- all but 1 or 2 have gone 3, just those last points...needs to get fitter
5. Chanda Rubin- Beat her at LA
6. Lindsay Davenport- Close Matches
7. Amelie Mauresmo- 6-2 6-1....ouch
8. Kim Clijsters- Gives her best
9. Daniela Hantuchova- That darn fall!
10. Jelena Dokic- same as venus

Dawn and a few others glad you got it
for those you who really thought I was trying to insult the semis... wrong...

It was in retaliation to the many Venus and Serena are making the game of tennis boring comments/threads.

Deira, I suddenly couldn't get on after creating this thread.
Went out and played *cough* some tennis.

Girlfriend there were so many people at the courts of all ages, from like 3 years old up to around 505 and I ain't joking. I was so thrilled!!!

Just returned

Go Venus and Serena!

Mboyle, I'm glad to see that you have recoverd from your dispair about the William' competitors. I thought both semi's were quite competitive. Momo almost got Venus. Good for Momo.

But did you hear what BJK had to say about the top players improving their game? Its crazy, defeatist and wrong to say that the current crop of competitors to the Williams can't improve. Of course thay can....humans can always improve. The only question is whether they are willing to pay the price to get better. I think many of them don't and their fans should expect better...or of course find new favs like the up coming Russians.

I got what you mean Althea, I understand the frustration

Back to the point, if you guys think the semis is boring, I dunno what kind of match will interest you LOL.

True Venus made a lot of errors, but of course she will make more errors than when she play no. 200 in the world, of course she will be making more errorss because Amelie was mixing up the shots and hit more powerful shots than any of Venus opponents during the fortnight so far.
