Senior Women's Tour - Would you Support It/Who Should Play

Seeing Steffi play again had me yearning for a senior women's tour. who else would like to see the likes of novotna, sabatini, sanchez vicario, navratilova, seles, graf, playing against each other again? it would have to be better than the current tour!

I would love a Women's Legends Tour, I wonder why they don't have one when the men do.

I would love to see:

Seles
Graf
Navratilova
Arantxa Sanchez Vicario
Hingis
Pierce
Capriati
Davenport
Martinez
Sabatini
Evert

SERENA 22 GRAND SLAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Senior Women's Tour - Would you Support It/Who Should Play

Jim Courier has mentioned that he has seriously thought about adding a 4 woman draw into all of the Outback Champions Series events next year (mens senior tour).

A womans senior tour wasn't feasible until now because many of the top female players from prior generations either stopped playing regularly or basically let themselves go physically. Many of the top former players from the 90s still have a high level of play and actually look in better shape than their tour days (Seles, Novotna, Date, etc).

I love the idea of having a womens seniors tour. I think Jim could get the ball rolling next year with an intro 4 ladys draw to go along with the mens field .

I am surprised there hasn't been a Seles-Graf exhibition.

That's a great idea! I wonder why no one ever pushed through with this... calling all the sponsors!

I add Novotna.

It would great, but I wonder if Chris Evert could play. I mean, she's 54 going to be 55 this year having had three kids, while someone like Monica is -- 36? 37? Hingis even younger!

Chris plays at her academy, and always looks good playing her fundraiser, but the differences in ages between Hingis and Evert... I don't know if that works. I think McEnroe is starting to feel the age difference on the men's senior tour.

Although, maybe it could work for doubles...? Don't know. Just seems the age difference needs to be accounted for.

p.s. I do think Navratilova could play with the age difference -- but she hasn't had kids, plus she has kept playing throughout. Plus, she's super woman.

Re: Senior Women's Tour - Would you Support It/Who Should Play

They had something called the Virginia Slims Legends Tour for a short time, featuring Evert, Navratilova, Zina Garrison, Tracy Austin, and some others, as I recall. I don't think it was particulary successful.

no disrespect to those players, but i think the ones we mentioned have huge fan followings. more so than the previous legends tour, which i remember, and was great!

Re: Senior Women's Tour - Would you Support It/Who Should Play

The thread starter is joking, right? People are barely paying to see in-their-prime women play today. There is no market, repeat, NO MARKET for a past-their-prime women's tour.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." -- Herb Brooks

"A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." -- Muhammad Ali

Re: Senior Women's Tour - Would you Support It/Who Should Play

The Seles-Navratilova exo was sold out if I remember correctly.

If they did it in conjunction with the slams, I could see that working.
