The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

She needs to lose early in Tokyo to be knocked off the No.1 spot.

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

Reminds me of Ana's version of this thread

Demska

And w/e, I think Safina will stay Top 5 for a while to come.

Regrettably a life long fan of Ana Ivanović

lol
she might lose the number 1 ranking at some point but clay is her favorite stuff, she should do well on it.

The rise is still cometh. In parts of the world she's not #1 for a few hours

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

A few months ago I thought she really deserves being # 1. But now I really doubt it...

It's said that she got to the pole position that way after missing so many opportunities. It would have been great to see winning her Indian Wells and getting to the top!

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

she might gain confidence from this, like jj end of 08, unlike ana post RG... a confident safina with the clay under her feet could be a fearsome number one...

im just trying to put a positive spin on things.. although i hope a new rule is made where you can only reach the number spot after winning a grand slam... but at least all the slamless number ones in history have all been grand slam finalists... and there's no doubt in my mind that jj and dinara will win a grand slam one day..

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

You never know... She wasn't a favourite at last years RG just a player that could do some damage but that was Dementieva, Kuznetsova as well... The favourites IMO were Sharapova and Serena Williams...

DOKIC VERA Z. ANA CARO
HANTUCHOVA KIRILENKO MIRZA CHAKVETADZE REZAÏ BACSINSZKY
Good luck to: Pironkova, Karatantcheva, Peng, Krajicek, Dushevina, Vesnina, Cetkovska, K&A Bondarenko, Oudin, Cornet, Tatishvili, Cibulkova, Olaru, Niculescu, Cirstea, Kleybanova, Larcher de Brito, Robson, Zahlavova Strycova, Rogowska, Marino... Would be even more...

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

So maybe with No.1 spot she might feel pressure...

Re: The Fall Cometh: Dinara Safina

I've been waiting for this thread for months.

I have to give Dinara a chance. I think a lot of her lousy play in the last two months was due to the pressure she felt knowing #1 was so close. I don't think she wanted to be #1 without winning a slam. Now that she's got it hopefully some of the pressure is off of her.

I can't judge her yet until she starts playing on clay. It's her best surface and I think she can do some damage this season if she doesn't let her brain get the best of her. She always says she doesn't understand why she doesn't play well in matches lately because she practices so well. It's all mental.

If she loses in the first couple of rounds in Stutgart and Madrid, I'll be back to report the fall is here.
