Why in the world were Wayne & Younes...

playing till past 2 am!!!! Talk about the worst
schedule in the US OPEN 2002. They just mentioned
it on CNN International; it's a all the late-night record.

I really feel for the players who aren't stars or pet
favorites of tour organizers.

Poor Younes has to play Hewitt next. Will he
be able to recover after playing a 4 setter with
3 tiebreakers past 2 am?

They both could have refused to play but I expect they both wanted to get it over with. It isn't anybody's fault. Remember, there was rain all day long.

Did those players complain or it is just you doing the complaining?

Well...we don't know for sure if they had a choice.
They were on court number 4, and aren't big stars
nor Americans.

look at it from the other side
the bad side of being famous

do you think that Venus;Chanda;Monica and Martina are happy to have to wait another day to play their matches?

maybe and maybe not

2 of these players will have to compete 2/3 days in a row - which may well have an impact on their perforamance in the next rounds.

like esselewis said they may have chosen to play and get it out of the way

Why bring up the stars? I'm talking about the
simple fact that it was past 2 am. Tennis players
usually sleep early before a match.

I'm not trying to argue here. I'm just saying that
out of a bad situation like a rain delay, some players
get the short end of the stick.

i'd rather wait a day and play consecutive days than play til 2am. that must screw things up for them a little.

I think its the best to play late at night. Anyways, go Younes, slay Hewitt!

Cogito, ergo sum.

maybe because, if they were not stars they would have played night matches too

sure they do (i'll take your word for it) but they are also used to travelling to many different countries (and the ther time zones) -not to mention the flight time en route - that does wonders for their internal clocks anyway, they are probably more able to cope with changing sleeping patterns than non-travellers.

which is the point of my initial post - is it actually the short end of the stick?
well i don't think either you or me know that - would they have perferred to wait or play???

maybe you should be saying ' some FANS get the short end of the stick' seeing as you missed watching a match that interested you

I actually went to the match. I don't know why they couldn't have started play before 11:15. It was a bit crazy. Younes didn't seem to mind. He's so weird and intense. I'm sure they had to get the men's third round matches over with before they played the fourthround. I guess they could have put them on a tiny outside court, but this was the first court available that was decently sized. First they had to play the women's matches, Coria-Clement, Henman-Chela, Sargisian-Schalken, etc.. So I'm not sure they had any chase and I'll bet the boys preferred playing rather than waiting till the day. Wayne seemed grumpy, had a sore arm, still made some fantastic shots. It was a fun atmosphere. The stadium was packed with the real hard-core tennis addicts, of all ages, races and varieties. There was a huge contingent of Moroccan fans, dressed in red, waving Moroccan flags and chanting with undimmed energy until the end of the night.

well here's what one the stars who got shunted to the next day had to say:

Q. How difficult has the bad weather made it for you?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Not difficult at all. I would have loved to have played yesterday. I don't know why they canceled my match. That's how it happens.
