Anastasia PAVLYENCHENKOVA: Huge progression for teen star Anastasia. At only 17 y.o, she’s far away the best 17 y.o player! Last week, she reached her ever 1rst SF on the WTA Tour. This is all the more amazing that she made it in a major tournament at IW $4,5M. During that journey, she ousted 2nd seed/n°3 Jankovic and 7th seed/n°10 Agniezska Radwanska before falling to 5th seed/n°7 Ivanovic.
Urszula RADWNASKA: Urszula is catching up the delay with her sister. It’s never easy when you’ve a successful elder…and Urszula was struggling a little bit with her progression. However, she started 2009 full of confidence, beating her sister in Dubai en route. Last week, she made it to the 4th rd at $4,5M IW upsetting 6th seed/n°8 Kuznetsova before falling to 9th seed/n°13 Wozniacki. Urszula is, this week, breaking the Top 100 for the 1rst time.
Kristina BARROIS: Steady progression for Kristina. At 27 y.o, she’s performing her ever best season. She’s like a couple of other players (Bremond, Coin) a girl who became pro as adult (2005). Last week she made it to the 3rd round as qualifier at Indian Wells $4,5M upsetting 11th seed/n°14 Cornet before losing to 22nd seed/n°27 Szavay.
Alexa GLATCH: A year ago Alexa was ranked around 260, she’s now breaking the Top 130 and confirmed what a lot of people were expecting. Considering her rise, she was logically granted a WC at IW $4,5M. She proved that she deserved it as she made it to the 3rd rd ousting 29th seed/n°32 Suarez Navarro en route before losing to another WC n°104 Urszula Radwanska.
FASTER MOVEMENTS IN THE TOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 150 and 200:

Another in form player, ranked 5th at the race, young Victoria is reaching for the 1rst time the Top 10 elite reaching the SF at IW $4,5M beating Top seed/n°2 Safina en route before falling to 4th seed/n°6 and eventual winner Zvonareva.

Yeroslova SHVEDOVA n°112 (+18):
Before 20 in August 2007, Yaroslava was breaking her ever best ranking at n°70. 18 months later, she’s between n°90 and 130. Last week, she reached the 2nd rd as a qualifier at IW $4,5M ousting 2nd seed/n°64 french Johansson in the qualies and n°72 Kudryavtseva before losing to 8th seed/n°11 and eventual semi finalist Azarenka.
Petra MARTIC n°188 (+13):
This young Croatian who turned 18 y.o in January could have a breakthrough this year. She doesn’t play a lot (only 3 tournaments, all on the WTA Tour in 2009). She’s back the Top 200 (with a career high at n°181) after making to the Final round of the qualies at IW $4,5M.
