How to break into top-10

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

It's sad that the USA will be 0 for 2000s when this season is over.

Petra Kvitova : 2011 Wimbledon and WTA Championships Champion

Less than month will be exactly 10 years since last American player reach WTA TOP10 club (Serena Williams, April 1999).

Also very important is to notice that since 2000 only two new NON-EUROPEAN players reach TOP10 - Ai Sugiyama and Alicia Molik which both never reach better position than #8 and which best GS result is Quarterfinal (Molik once, Sugi twice). If You look that "Girls to Watch" list which I added (contenders) You will not see any American girl and chances for both NON-EUROPEAN girls (from China both) is not seems so big at the moment.

I think Na Li could definitely be a top 10-player if she wasn't injured that much and if she found a way to deal with her inconsistency.

Actually Elena Dementieva is first new TOP10 player in new Millenium and Anna Kournikova is first since 2000 (first year of new millenium is 2001).

Dokic is not YUG and not SRB when reach TOP10. YUG was ex-Yugoslavia (country which not exist since 1991). Since that and before Montenegro Independence in 2006 this our country are SRJ and SCG (Serbia and Montenegro). But if You insist than Ivanovic and Jankovic when reach TOP20 is also not SRB

Yes, I forget to count Suarez like NON-EUROPEAN in previous post, but 3 out of 23 still looks pathetic to me, especially b/c any of this three never reach better spot than #8, and all three together has 1xSF & 3xQF at slams.

Re: All New WTA TOP10 players since 2000

Thanks... I completely miss that week in june of 1998 when Kournikova has real TOP10 debut, so I now deleted her from list. Also now I corrected my facts about Chakvetadze (it was february of 2006, not march).

So Azarenka will be 22nd New TOP10 since 2000, not 23rd.

Re: All New WTA TOP10 players since 2000

I like how everyone has entered the top ten has got at least to number nine. That's nice. No brief top ten one week wonders.
