She should be playing, with that draw she would win this tournament without a doubt, her beloved Indian Wells... no Maria nor the williams, Lindsay´s best rivals, she wouldn´t lose a set in this tournament!

She is quite good and professional.
No gossip and gratuitous dig at other players
Also easy to listen to her

Does anyone have any footage? I got matches Lindsay commentated from youtube of Doha last year and I really enjoyed listening to her and was wondering if anyone has clips of matches from Indian wells they could put on yourtube.

Do you really believe what you are saying, Lindsay was no longer a top player when she stopped playing, there are players like everyone else left in the draw she would struggle to get past.
What you are imagining is linday at her prime which is not now.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

And - most importantly - she's pregnant.

Lindsay Davenport

Elena Bovina | Anastasia Myskina | Flavia Pennetta
Fernando Verdasco | Tommy Haas

Q. Give us an update on the kid.
A. Are you serious?

I totally agree with you tennisfannn I don't want Lindsay to come back after baby number 2. I've enjoyed watching during her first comeback but she is an also ran now who is playing decent tennis but will never contend again. Lindsay had a great career as player and I look forward to hearing more from her as a commentator in the future. Her great tennis and contending for slam is long gone and I want her to retire before the full fade out starts happening not that it has yet but I fear it could if she makes another comeback. I want to remember her as a great champion not a player who hung on too long and faded out she deserves that.

Yet in the last year that she played, she had wins over the #2 and #3 players in the world, and won three titles.

Lindsay was playing like a top ten player until she started getting injured again.

Agreed. Had Lindsay not gotten injured, she easily would've gotten to the Top 3.

She was making some of these players look foolish at 31. It really shows how talented she is and how poor the tour is.

Exactly. If she had kept up those results from Jan-Apr last year she would have certainly re-entered the top 15 and probably the top 10 too. It's that damn injury which wrecked everything.

Plus, at IW she is always that bit more dangerous.

Re: Davenport commentating on Azarenka Safina match!!

Not to demean Lindsay but her best results were in 04 before baby no.1. She did not win anything above a tier 3 on a return despite wins over the no. 2/3. We cannot just make the assumption if she were playing now she would be winning IW.
We can argue if JJ were playing better she would be winning it too, if ElenaD had not been upset she would be winning it too. I don't get why someone feels the need to bad rep me just because I don't believe Lindsay would have won this.

Safina beat her in 2008 BEFORE she went on her hot run. She lost to Marion Bartoli in the midst of Bartoli's freefall post-Wimbledon. If Sabine Lisicki could beat Davenport last year, how many young players could beat her THIS year? She wouldn't last 6 matches, and that's assuming she is seeded. Add to it she is pregnant and probably still injured enough to forgo a comeback were she not pregnant, and you are talking nonsense.

...what? She won a Tier IV and a Tier III in 2008, her highest win being over someone outside the top 30. She lost to Safina before Safina was top 10 quality, and had but 3 top 10 wins in 2007 AND 2008 combined. She was playing like Alisa Kleybanova; beating the players she had no business losing to, but still not winning anything important.

And that's a gigantic "if" situation. She was getting injured BECAUSE she was 31 and too beat up to contest titles anymore. I could make the same argument about Steffi Graf, or Martina Navratilova even. But none of them will ever be a top 50 player again, let alone top 3, because they simply got old.

Again, injuries to the young are different from injuries to the old. Agassi would have won the US Open his last year if he hadn't had sciatica. But he did. Because he was too old to be playing with 20 year olds. Davenport is no different.

I meant that in a one year span, from September 2007-September 2008, she won four singles titles and beat three top ten players. She was playing like Kleybanova? Kleybanova has never won a title, and has one top ten win in her entire career.

I'm not one of the posters here saying that she'd be a sure thing for winning Indian Wells this year if she was playing. All I'm saying is that had she kept up a regular schedule and remained healthy, she'd have a shot at the top ten. In my first post in this thread, I was responding to a poster saying she would struggle against everyone left in the draw. Apart from her loss to Lisicki in Fed Cup, she never lost to a player outside of the top 15 in her comeback.
