Re: More on Zina's law suit
Interesting dilema for V&S. If they play for Fernandez ( and most likely will win), this will vindicate the USTA in their decision to hire Mary Jo, since she will come accross as a winner, and by extension, Zina...a loser. On the other hand, V&S, as a show of solidarity, could choose not to play, which means MJ's record will most certainly look like Zina's after 3 years.
Both Vee and Ree have spoken highly about playing one last Olympics which is 3 years from now. The rules have always been that you must play Fed Cup to be choosen for the Olympics. So, are V&S going to boycot for the next 2 years and then "suddenly" discovers their patriotism conveniently in time for the London Olympics, which I suspect will be played on grass? Certainly, that would be transparently seen as opportunistic, and would MJ ( assuming it's totally her choice) choose them after being "dissed" for 2 years? And if V&S maintain their current form, how do you tell tennis' greatest superstars, "sorry, there is no room on the team for you"?
This story could have the makings of another soap opera, not unlike the one in Australia 2000. Stay tuned.
