Quick Safarova question

Can you help me settle a disagreement I am having with a friend of mine?

What would you say are Safarova's pros and cons, ie her forehand, backhand, serve, speed, power and any other category that you think is important to her game.

Thanks,

Monica Seles
Lindsay Davenport
Kim Clijsters
Shino Tsurubuchi

Re: Quick Safarova question

On my WTA file, I have the following about Safarova:

- Decent serve, but prone to serve double faults when she lacks confidence.

- Uses a lot of topspin on her ground strokes, but she can also flat the ball and hit with tremendous power.

- However she needs confidence to do that or she destroys herself with silly errors.

- Decent defensive game. Her confidence is her exclusive barometer on her game.

Re: Quick Safarova question

I think her serve when its on is her main weapon, because its difficult to read, has variety of spin and power and great placement
I think her backhand is good at changing direction and absorbing pace, but she can also flatten it out and be aggressive as hell with it
Forehand is her big shot, topspin or flat can produce winners from it

Pretty good mover, pretty fit

But she is not so good mentally, and she is a very streaky player. If one part of her game goes the rest soon follows, and thats why she had such bad results last year. She is a big confidence player, and if its low, she hits 50 UE per match

Re: Quick Safarova question

When she's on, she's so exciting to watch and is very consistent. However, her results are not consistent. She can be on fire one day and dreadful the next. She's a confidence player. Serve, forehand and backhand are all good/great shots, specifically forehand - she can hit it with lots of topspin or flatten it out. Sometimes she goes for way too much, especially on her return, which can be dreadful, and other times, amazing. She'll take giant swings at it sometimes. Decent movement, but her net approaches can be awkward at times, but I think she's a capable volleyer. Not to mention, she can hit wild errors sometimes, that are just awful. It's unfortunate, she really has the ability to be top 10, IMHO.

Re: Quick Safarova question

Good FH and BH with huge depth when ON
She hits the ball pretty flat to me like most of the Czech girls

Serve is slightly above average. She has the advantage to be a lefty though

Net game is non-existent

Her defense game is terrible. She's pretty slow despite being very fit.

Re: Quick Safarova question

One of the best returns of serve in the tour (see Safarova vs Kuznetsova and Safarova vs henin both at Paris 2007), and being a lefty she takes advantage of her topspin ability.

Problems on the serve and net game.
