Acapulco R1: Roberta Vinci def. (6) Lucie Safarova 6-4 6-4

Roby, I knew she was a good all around surface player, having a title on clay and great on grass, but a shocking win over Lucie is

Very strange match. Lucka seemed to be in complete control, even down a set but seemed to manage to lose serve at the most crucial moment. I can't think of a but a few games that went to deuce - it was very quick. Just a strange loss, all I can say.

Lucie:

Terrible percentages on first-serve return...it's peculiar how Lucie has more trouble against average servers than against big servers.

Congrats to Vinci.

Is Lucie playing Monterrey? This isn't an ideal step before Indian Wells.

What is going on with Lucie?
I know she still young, but... it could be getting late early

Don't give up so fast.

What is missing in her game?
Is it coaching? focus?

But by the score, she wasn't close to winning this one.

You think she is getting ahead of herself, by thinking she the set won when she is leading?

Yeah, she's done alright-to-good this year. This loss is a backslide, though. Definitely in terms of her return game.

First clay match of the year for her though.

Re: Acapulco R1: Roberta Vinci def. (6) Lucie Safarova 6-4 6-4

this is lucies only really bad tournament and loss this year

it's a terrible loss really, she often has trouble against average servers because she is too aggressive on return. I wish she hadn't played here and just played monterrey though, it was a strange decision

I read somebody's blog and they said that Lucie would upset Venus in the quarters here... guess not.

Play better next tournament, Lucie.
